Scotland 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Manual Java BlackDiscovery 3

Hi there D-M thanks for your message,
Makes me think since the unit is now off the car for repair or replacement there would be nothing to lose opening it up to see what's what.
Can I ask the obvious, yes the car has been a screecher foe a wjile (but cleanind adjusting then a new shoes springs(?) kit hellped albeit temporarily) so if the gears are damaged will that damage be obvious?
I'm sure following your excellent tiuorial we might be able to unjam the unit, but don't want to refit it if the gears are knackered etc.
Also can i please ask your advice and opinion regards replacing the unit, do you think it might be better to have it repared using some new metal parts or best just to replace like with like but ensure that the handbrake is kept cleaned and adjusted more frequently?
Feels like I might beactually be getting close to getting the car back so starting to get rather excited at the thought, lol!
Thanks again for your reply.
Cheers
Ken

Disco_Mikey,

A big thank you from Australia. I have just bitten the bullet and given this a go. It was certainly not easy to do while the unit is still fitted, but with perseverance it was done. It now works better than I can ever remember it working (after also adjusting the brake shoes on each side according to Bodsy's brake bible - thanks Bodsy).

Cheers, Matt.

Hi Disco mikey

Yesterday i had a look at my ebp (before i had read this thread) i found the circlip on the end of the plastic gear had come off causing the noise

I fitted a 13mm nut to fix the gear ,

I did not rewind the mechanism - what diagnostic tool can i use to do this ?

My ebp will currently now engage but i have to manually release to get it off

I am guessing i need to reset the fault code to get it back to normal ?

What is your opinion ?

It is probably not releasing as it is jammed. You have to unwind the brass part Thumbs Up

If it is not jammed too tight, diagnostics can possibly unjam it

OBD will not work. It will have to be a Land Rover specific system

Hi

These are the option you get with a Faultmate

The UNJAM one sounds interesting.

Has anybody have any experience in using any of these?

Regards

Yes, though not with a FM. If the module is jammed, the "unjam" feature forces the motor to release at full power. However, if the motor is jammed too tight, it will do nothing other than scream at you Thumbs Up

Well having got stuck in today using Mikey's brilliant guide and Bodsy' excellent brake bible I now have a fully functioning and correctly adjusted EPB, better than its ever been Thumbs Up

For sure unjamming the module was a result ,no more flashing P on the dash , relatch worked a peach- just got to re mount it and seal the lid on tomorrow . What it bought home was the critical nature of the EPB shoe adjustment for the module to function as the LR gods intended , will for sure be keeping the adjustment up on a regular basis to avoid the mess I discovered on both sides due to the lack of maintenance which then required a major strip down ......

To both you guys Bow down Bow down Bow down

For sure the bill at a stealers would have easily been £1500 plus for this work

Thumbs Up

Thanks OP, saved me a bunch.

The motor had unwound to the stops causing the oh so annoying squeel! Wound it back in manually per your instructions and its fine!

thanks again.

Just like to say thank you for this post as today gave my disco to my mechanic friend along with a printout of this post and it now works perfectly to my relief as I thought I had a large bill he took 2 hours to do it and charged me £50 he freed it off manually then used his snap on diagnostic tool to wind it back the rest of the way and relatch it adjusted the shoes they still had 5mm of lining left so will be changing them in the near future and away I went with a big smile once again thanks
