travelling to view a car

How far do people travel to view a car for sale, I've seen one nearly 3 hours drive from me and don't fancy the round trip to find it's not perfect, also why won't stealers give me a (rough) px price via email, I'd be much more likely to travel if they did.

Ive contacted two dealers over the past week via email and just get ignored.

Mad

I went 21/2 hours to get my first, if its from a dealer I would hope it would be ok. Pick up the phone and talk to them. You should be able to get a worst case scenario by using we buy any car, anything better is a bonus.

Where is it, you could ask someone local if they could have a first look, been done before on here.

Bear in mind that, from the dealer's point of view, if you are prepared to travel a long way then they will be pretty confident they've nabbed you already. They will not answer your e-mails because why should they bother. If you're interested in one of their vehicles then come and look at it: they're not in business to help you chose between one of theirs and a competitors.

Taking your post at face value, I would be delighted if you walked into my showroom. I'd bet that if you were looking to part-ex then you would probably turn up in a nice, clean motor with all the paperwork etc. Even better, for me that is. Done your research? Got an up to date value of your trade-in? I can only do so much so I'll go and talk with my manager......can I have your keys for him to have a look? Once they have your keys you are most certainly hooked, whether you know it or not.

I have yet to meet a dealer/seller who has tried to sell a car. They know damn well you want it and therefore you will sell it to yourself. Etc., etc., etc.. Learn about how they play the game, and it is a game, a serious and expensive game. Dealers, trade sellers are NOT your friends and they know there is one born every minute (a gullible buyer that is). Done it myself. Go on line and search buying/selling a car. Look for traders' comments and such. It's all there for each and everyone of us to read: but theu know that very few will bother. It's business. Good luck.

Some years ago I went by train from Portsmouth to Penzance to view & buy a car.

The car was as described, and just what I wanted, but I couldn't beat the seller down, so agreed his asking price. He then decided he didn't want to sell the car!

He give me a lift back to the station, but steadfastly refused to reimburse my train & taxi fares, or my lost working hours.

Thanks, I understand how it works and always am "just passing" no matter what the distance, that's why I hate travelling to find a car gone, don't like to call and give the impression they've sold it to me already Razz

I got a px price for my D3 by sending pictures to the dealer 300 miles away- they asked me to take pictures of the worst parts. I then agreed the replacement price and on the d day we both looked at the deals and agreed that they were as described. The price I got was effectively the WBAC.com price. Not brilliant but did the job and I got what I was looking for. Plenty of scope for it all to go wrong though.

I turn up in a filthy car full of kids mess, never have a price in mind.

I have had px prices in the past two weeks vary by up to £3K, all for very similar cars at very similar prices. One much lower than WBAC.

Yes if the car is as described and they pay book px prices they have sold it to me, but if not I walk.

I can see a dealer listing a GS now with loads of features including "Keyless Entry". So that advert is completely wrong, how can I trust a car will be as advertised after travelling, oh and they also have a Landmark in Orkney Grey

I did a round trip of 400 miles to get mine.
4 hours up, same back.

Car was as described, the family selling had done a few bits to it when i bought it. Wife sold it as husband was out of the country, she got a new alternator fitted as she didn't want to sell me a car that might go wrong. Laughing

If the deal or car isn't right then walk away. They are not doing you a favour, it's you doing them a favour. After all, without your money, they'd be out of business.

I've walked away from a gun buy and a motorbike, both the gun and the bike are still for sale four months later. Their loss not mine, I have a decent bike, just wanted a different style! I'd also buy one close to you, if it goes wrong it'll be easier to sort out any problems.
You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I sold my first D3 to someone from Southampton... they came up to Fife to see it first... and I drove it down to London for him..

The Irony was that I went to Southampton to buy it from the first owner! Weird!

I had advertised it pretty cheaply as I need the money for house renovations at the time... The funny thing is that everyone was suspicions as to why it was £4k cheaper than a main dealer... despite FSH and everything being perfect... sometimes you just cant win...

Traveled from Penzance to Cheshire for my D3.. Some good photos from the seller and an honest sounding guy on the phone. Turns out he was an airline pilot, it was always parked in his garage ergo the low miles. So glad I made the effort, it's a beaut. Smile

I got the dealer to bring the car to me to view (over 100 miles). They then delivered it a week later after a few bit were sorted that I picked up on when viewing and I gave them a bankers draft.

Dropped the driver off at the train station, didn't step foot in the dealers once Thumbs Up
