Xenon and LED Upgrades - which ones do I need for my D3 D4

Hi all

After many recent emails asking me to give links to the correct bulbs for the D3 I have decided to do a new post so you can just paste the SKU product code into the search on the site and buy whichever bulbs you wish to replace. I will keep it updated as we get new bulbs in. www.hids4u.co.uk

The most popular bulb on the D3 is the W5W or 501. This bulb is fitted in the following locations, assuming you have all these lamps installed:

Interior:

Note i prefer the warm white in my car for interiors - if you prefer the cooler white looking that just select the cool white or white option of the same product listed below:

Puddle lamps in each door card - x 4
Boot light x 1
front and 2nd row interior ceiling light - total x 6
Drivers footwell x 1
Passenger footwell x 1
Glove box x 1
3rd row ceiling lights x 2

Mr recommendation is for the bootlight and puddle lamps is to use the 6x2 LED module in Warm White LEDMOD12WW x 1. This could also be used in the middle ceiling lights 1st and second row as an alternative to the 501LED13LWW suggested below.

For the footwells, centre bulb in 1st row, all 3 in the 2nd row and both 3rd row ceiling lights use these 501LED13LWW-1 x 8 These bulbs use 0.5watts and give 2 or 3 times more light than the 5watt original bulb

for the glove box leave as halogen as its a pain to get out and the 13led doesnt fit or use one of these 501LED5XPW-1 x 1

for the passenger side ceiling use this in red 5501LED5XPR-1 - its amazing anti glare for the driver and enough light to read a map or use 501LED5XPW-1 x 1 if you dont want red

for the drivers side ceiling light (or if you prefer the flood lit effect each time you open the door or turn the ignition off - then switch this with the centre one) fit one of these LEDMOD30WW x 1

Exterior
Front side lights, number plate lights use these 501LED13LW-1 x 4
side repeater indicator bulbs these 501LED5XPA-1 x 2

D3 ONLY:
front indicators 3156LED92ULTA-1 x 2
You will also need the resistors for this x 2 - 10ohm 10-25watt RES001 (out of stock Big Cry )
Xenon Headlights - best possible Osram Coolblue Intense 66240CBI-2 a pair - IN STOCK Mr. Green
Standard replacements 85122-1 x 2
Rear Indicator bulbs 382LED92ULTA-2 x 1 pair in AMBER plus resistors RES001
Rear stop/tail 380LED92ULTR-1 x 1 pair in RED
Rear Fog light 380LED92ULTR-1 x 1 pair in RED (waste of money i wouldnt bother as they are never on!)

D3 and D4
Front Cornering Lamps H8 FOGH8LEDULT-2 x 1 pair - or these are almost as good FOGH8LED12HP x 2
Front fog lights H11 FOGH11LEDULT-2 x 1 pair - or these are almost as good FOGH11LED12HP x 2
DRL in grille 12820WLEDX1 x 1
Audi Style DRL controller for any DRL lights DRLCONTROL x 1 see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KipWlyrKH5Q

note this is a cosmetic upgrade to give you pure white light - its not for improved performance as LED in this bulb type cant match the beam pattern of the halogen. The H8s do give a lot of light for cornering in any event but just a warning

D4 Only
DRL kits to fit in lower bumper 12810WLEDX1 x 1 or 12824WLEDX1 x 1

I need a rest now.

Ian was just typing this all in as I was emailing him about puddle-lights. Great timing!

Given that the lens of the D3 rear light is red wouldn't the white ones be better?

That's what I first thought but the red lens is filtering out the other colours so if you're starting with red to begin with....

Exactly Thumbs Up
Red in a red light
Amber in an amber light
Deeper red and amber and brighter as no light is filtered out Thumbs Up
The d3 does use the twin filament bulb in the rear lights even when only one filament is used. The led I listed for the rear lights can be used in all of the bulbs either and it will work just like the original bulbs, either dim (5w equiv) or 21w watt equiv for brake and fog lights
Best Regards Ian
