You lent me the 110 silver bus as a courtesy car..

Well, you live and learn.. I did discover what was wrong with the Disco.. A dead battery killed off by the frost..
BUT, that was compounded by me not knowing that when the vehicle isn't locked, there's a battery drain, which is why the new battery went dead too. Whistle I expect several (if not all) of the contributors on this post knew this, but also assumed that I did too.. Nope, I did not, and I'm owning up in case someone else who didn't know reads this..
The reason I left it unlocked for two or three days was that it was such a pain to unlock the car with a dead battery, until I found out about the towing socket trick...
My wife claims she had read about the need to keep the car locked, (other married men will not be surprised at that..) but we can't find where it's written - couldn't find it in the owners manual.
I would add that we live in a zero-crime area.

I did not know or even suspect that the car does not fully go to sleep unless locked. In fact I am quite surprised at this as, whilst not specifically looking for it, I would have thought I would have seen the additional drain when doing other checks.

Not doubting what you have been told but I am finding it a little difficult to comprehend.

Mine had a 1.3 amp drain when unlocked. I've since encountered a guy who works on police Landies and he confirmed it. Lets put it this way, the car has been fine since I resumed locking it as usual, often left for several days.

Help!!! You are all far too technical for me!! I am desperate as my bloody discovery 3 (which I love by the way) has exactly the same problem. I have taken it in to Landrover at HUGE expense twice now and have had a new battery and a new alternator and STILL when I least expect it, I have a totally flat bettery.
I am completely confused by this as I knew about the battery drain when not locked (sorry about that chaps, I am indeed a girl!!) and ahve been locking it but STILL I have to jump start it at least 3 times a week. Bloody annoying and nothing turned up on the diagnostics of the Landrover tests. What shall I do? I there a difference between lock and alarm on? If so, which makes the car stop going dead... and in fact which is just lock and which activated the alarm too? I presume it is a matter of how many times you press the lock button on the car fob? xxx

My first action would be to take it back to the garage who charged you a fortune as they obviously haven't fixed it and may have fitted parts the vehicle didn't need as the problem is still there. But, are you driving far enough to recharge the battery after starting (drain from starter motor and glow plugs..).
I would also start another thread, as this one is played out.. Ed.

My D3 has to be jump started every day to start it. I have had the battery and alternator checked, both appear 100%. I also had them check the drain but it was well under an amp. Seriously getting naffed with it now. Big Cry
(The vehicle was perfect until I had the front bumper re sprayed. The cowboys that did it managed to snap a clip on the grill and since they sprayed it, which involved removing the bumper, I have had water in the headlight, a bulb blow Xeon, the ballast box blow and yesterday the wheel arch extension on the o/s almost fell off on the motorway because they hadn't replaced it properly. All of this they deny is their fault.)
The other problem I've had since the cowboys with spray guns did their deed, is a suspension fault, amber, normal ride hight only. Fine when I start up, a few seconds later, ping and it's on again.
Could this be the cause of the flat battery? Also would pulling the self levelling fuse while it's parked overnight be a temporary answer until I can get the disco to the shop in the new year.
Sorry about the length of the post.
