That more suggests that the FBH is not running properly. If yours burns cleanly without any smoke then its running as it was meant to. I also have the BAS unit and mine only gives a little puff of smoke when it first ignites and powers up to full load then it runs cleanly after that.
In very cold weather though you will see a lot more water vapour, due to the difference in temperature between the exhaust and air temp.

Smoke is generally associated with the first run or two after it's not run for a long time - e.g. the first cold morning of the winter. It shouldn't smoke under normal operation. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Mine smoked like a good un when it fired up couple of days ago for the first time in ages & ages & ages. Probably got a sensor out of whack as it doesn't play until it's -7c & below, then sends out smoke signals that could be seen by the ISS.

Having failed to remember to run it over the summer mine needed a couple of fuel prime and park heat operations through the Webasto software to get it to kick in and stay running - with billowing smoke clouds 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
