Big troubles in Italy during holiday (P117D)
We had plans to go for holidays to Croatia with the Disco, plenty of room for our luggage and we could take all our 4 bikes!! That was the plan, the D3 never made it and is still in Italy , we came back home by plane.
The full story, and an important question at the end before I take it to the garage:
Took off from Belgium to the north of Italy without any problems, btw. very beautifull there in the mountains. We stayed there a few days and during a local trip the disco failed a first time.
In car display:
Transmission fault (F)
Engine system fault
Suspension lowered
Switched off the ignition and start again, no problem, but when I took off, same errors and limp mode again.
Insurance called, car towed, too late for garage, next day to local garage. Called garage, they didn't find anything. After a reset (battery disconnected) the car drove fine. I told them it might be the high pressure fuel pump. They said they tested everything and the car is fine. Because of the fuel errors they changed the fuel filter and that's it, I get the car back.
Next day we continue our trip and about 150km further, same errors. Again insurance and this time I told them to tow the car to a official dealer, no problem, they did. Same story there, next day they look at the car and didn't find anything, again I told them to look at the high pressure fuel pump, pump=fine!
I could arrange a rental car via the insurance and we continued our holiday with the rental car, left the car at the dealer for a week and came back to drive home with our hopefully fixed car.
Came back at the dealer after a week, they did lots of tests and still didn't find a problem, they were confident we could drive it to Belgium (+1000kms!). We took off and after 30kms same story. Car towed back to the same dealer and the next day I called them again and by surprice they found a problem, it's the high pressure fuel pump!
We are on our way home and it would take some days to order, fix and check everything so I got an arrangment with the insurance company to get us back home and the car too and have it fixed in my local garage. It can take some weeks before I get the D3 back in Belgium, but I'm glad I can have it fixed here.
Afterwards, I remembered I took diesel in a cheap little gas station about 100km before the first breakdown. Can bad fuel cause these errrors? If yes, can it be fixed without replacing the HPFP, could it also be the lowPFP or is there another filter in the fuel tank which can cause these fuel errors?2017-...: Disco II Td5 auto, 1999, BAS remap, HD TC and auto box Ashcroft, Allisport IC, ACE, 2" lift only coils, BF goodrich KM2 265/70R17, FF front and rear bumper, TF steering guard and tree sliders, nanocom.

It could have been your brake light bulbs or switch... Did you check them?If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Did have a look at the brake lights, but they are not on all the time, only when the brake pedal is pressed. I've seen this comment many times on the forum, so that's why I looked at the brake lights. But what should I check, I suppose just having a look at the back of the car is not what you mean with checking the switch...
I can add that after the first garage (where they changed the fuel filter) I had the impression that there was less power between 1500 and 2000rpm, never noticed that before. This pointed me even more in the direction of the HPFP.2017-...: Disco II Td5 auto, 1999, BAS remap, HD TC and auto box Ashcroft, Allisport IC, ACE, 2" lift only coils, BF goodrich KM2 265/70R17, FF front and rear bumper, TF steering guard and tree sliders, nanocom.

Oh Dear, Not good to have your holiday upset by car troubles.
When your car arrives home and goes to your local garage hopefully they will start with the basics and check the LPFP by checking the pressure at the valve and then move on from there. All three P codes relate to the fuel system so can't see it being brake light/switch but you never know!

Brake light switch fit a new one about £10-£25.
I always carry a spare.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It would be great if a little switch could fix this really strange behaviour and expensive repair, but I'd like to have some way to test the switch. It takes sometimes more than 100km before the car gives any troubles, I don't like the idea to drive a car, knowing it could stop any moment. I'd love to change the brake switch but I'd like to know if the old one was bad so I know I did fix something and not change a good switch by another good one...
(Sorry for my English, it looks odd if I read it again, but I hope you undestand what I try to tell)2017-...: Disco II Td5 auto, 1999, BAS remap, HD TC and auto box Ashcroft, Allisport IC, ACE, 2" lift only coils, BF goodrich KM2 265/70R17, FF front and rear bumper, TF steering guard and tree sliders, nanocom.

With a 6 year old brake switch it is worth throwing a new one on given the price.
....and that's coming from someone who hates throwing on new parts as part of diagnostics!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I had similar problems this year in France. Car kept going into limp mode. Basic reader said high fuel pressure. Changed the brake bulbs and then after Robbie sent me plan how to change the brake switch it then worked fine after changing the brake switch and got me all the way home with no issues. Go for the simple stuff first

P117D=fuel volume regulator exceeded max limit, pressure low (faulty HP pump or sensor?)
P0082=fuel rail sys. pressure low (faulty HP pump or sensor?)
P0191= fuel rail pressure sensor range/performance (This could point to a faulty fuel rail sensor).
U0101=lost communication with transmission module.(this could point to a faulty brake switch or brake bulb)
U2023=engine torque information.
Go with the above post , brake light switch can throw up all manner of faults, I have only today cured one with a suspension fault, new brake light switch cured it. A new switch will not cure everything though, wish it would.
Test the fuel rail pressure with live values on the Iid tool, should be ISTR over 33000kp rising with engine revs.
Reading your OP again bad fuel particularly if it has water in it can also cause these problems even though you have had a new filter fitted, filters can block up very very quickly, this is usually when you get the fuel from the bottom of the garage tank or if the tank has just been filled and the dregs at the bottom of the tank have been stirred up.
Hope this helps. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I had this problem in Morocco on my old D3. Everytime I booted it, got the same symptoms as you. Outside air Temperatures were in 40's, and it happened after a refuel.
As soon as I got some Spanish derv in it, it was fine.

+1 for brake lights and switch - had all the same faults with mine (fuel pressure etc) but since replacing the above nothing for 6 months. I was having up to 20 shutdowns a day...-------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you all for the numerous posts. Lot of brake light switches so first thing what I'll do is get a brake light switch, I suppose installation is straight forward? At the moment I can't do much more as the Disco is still in Italy and don't know when she'll be back.
If the HPFP is bad, can I do more damage driving the car? I mean, can it really mess up the fueling system, get metal parts in the injectors or even in the cilinders?2017-...: Disco II Td5 auto, 1999, BAS remap, HD TC and auto box Ashcroft, Allisport IC, ACE, 2" lift only coils, BF goodrich KM2 265/70R17, FF front and rear bumper, TF steering guard and tree sliders, nanocom.
