Hi all, a very minor point but can anyone suggest why the indicator has stopped 'clicking'? It is still working but silent inside!

Seriously, is there a separate speaker? I thought it used the ICE system?

Not a "proper" speaker as such but a little sounder (Piezo I think,) built into the back of the dash clocks unit.Clive
Ok, I've checked it out and the lights on buzzer is also not working. Could this be a software problem rather than hardware?07MY TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey + Alpaca

Sorry but no suggestions from anyone regarding the small 'speaker' replacement.
Any suggestions anyone? Can I add one into the wiring under the dash rather than take out the whole lot?07MY TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey + Alpaca

As Adigorn mentioned, a new IC (instrument cluster) is probably the tidiest answer, no idea of cost Wonky, TLO may help you out with that though.

I had this on my ford focus, it drove me mad, no headlamp warning.
I then unplugged the headlight switch to check it and plugged it back in and the warning returned.
Worth a try?

Hiya Wonky
I have quite some experience with this sounder on a few instrument clusters, but unfortunately in removing or disconnecting it rather than fixing or replacing it.
It is easily accessible by removing the rear cover of the instrument cluster which has a perforated bulge to accommodate it. However de soldering it is a bit tricky as it is soldered and clipped to the Main PCB and you cannot get to the bottom unless you start removing needles etc. What you could do it cut the pins leaving a couple of mm to solder new wires onto.
Then feed the wires out the back and attach a replacement.
It's quite do able really, but it does assume it is the speaker at fault rather than the driver electronics etc.
It sounds like you also had this problem and did this fix with some success, which suggests the speaker was indeed at fault in your case, can you confirm and possibly elaborate on your experience more.
If it proves to be a common problem i would happily do the mod on one of my many test clusters with a how to and pictures for everyone.

Yes indeed it was on 2008 RRS arrived to me with silent indicators and lacking other system sounds
I did make a decision to try to fix it rather then spending a little fortune on new IC
In my treasure box found old Toshiba laptop wit smallest speaker i could find and solder it to the PCB
After refitting to the car all sound came back with very similar (could say same tone) as before
Unfortunately the car is not mine and can not supply you with any photos until it will come back for service
Definitely soldering process is most difficult part in whole operation

Cheers Adigorn
It does seem odd that 3 folks have had this happen now and your confirming that you fixing one case by replacing the sounder kinda points to this being the fault bit for the others.
Cool fix BTW, i used to have a treasure box but its kinda turned into a racked our room
Having some experience with these sounders myself i can probably imagine just what you did so don't worry about the photos, i have everything right to hand to also do this albeit just for the sake of documenting and photographing it.
I will also measure the impedance of a working sounder so folks might be better able to match that if they want.
Actually i could do with disconnecting the sounder on some more of my test clusters anyway as the constant bonging drives my guys nuts when we are working on our test rigs and covering them over with tape and Blu tack only mutes them so much.
As you say the soldering would be the difficult bit, but with confirmation that the sounder is very likely to be the problem and the job documented, folks can always take their cluster to some electronics repair place etc.
