To give my answer to the question posed by the last post -the Fuel expert link says it all - with lab conditions as proof that has some validation
TSO It isn't the best thing to add......personally I would (& do) use straight diesel & maybe occasionally some good quality fuel treatment.
....it could be argued that diesel fuel treatments results are marginal to non existent.....but whatever they are arent long term or lived..(well to me they arent !)
If some talented chemist could devise a fuel additive that could:
- Clean pumps & injectors
- Clean inlet valves
- Clean & lubricate piston rings
Then enough of the stuff survives the combustion process
To clean & lubricate
- the exhaust valves
- The variable nozzle turbo parts
& (the BIG &) if any lubrication was left.
........it disappears into less than a puff of air.
.......environmental non polluting perfection
To be realistic as we don't get the customary clouds of the typical two stroke exhaust (some of us may recall) from the last century when bikes & some cars were two stroke...
I respectfully suggest that TSO added to diesel is just burnt off.....with none of the post combustion advantages & debatably few of the pre combustion ones....
Let the discussion roll on.....maybe in the other thread that like the Kings Invisible Clothes...extolls the benefits of TSO added to DERVBREXIT - done properly.

Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
Both threads reference learned guys on other parts of sister sites who would / should seem to / ought to know
Also this thread seem to waver as to whether you can add ONLY mineral TSO or maybe semi synthetic.
is it a case of:
D3/D4 users decide by "doing there own thing" & "hoping for the best" hoping for improvements in "noise" &"running" + whatever else & taking & accepting the risk of damage to injectors etc
or
There is enough evidence that TSO is beneficial & worth accepting whatevr to eliminate the issues of running & noise....
...at the end of the day & your Disco 3/4 is broke with lots of £s having to be spent to get back to Permagrin status is using TSO a good idea ?
after all ...it isnt a life or death / the D3 runs or doesnt run situation...is eliminating "noises"& "poor running" important enough to take risks
I cant admit to having a 2 stroke anything...the reason for this is they dont have DIPSTICKS...simple !BREXIT - done properly.

Just been reading through this - interesting - do we know what effect this 'additive' has on emissions - legally/environmentally? - can't seem to find any reference to this in the posts I have read so far....
I wonder if adding such to a vehicle with DEF would be an issue.....?2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

Very interesting read. I'm a sucker for anything that is supposed to improve efficiency or protect my engine. I have been using TSO now for almost a year. Last week I had ran out of TSO and had lots of running around to do, so I had to fill up a couple of times without any. I have not noticed any difference at all in the car. After reading that link, I might try without for a few more weeks.
What about Reddex? As I said, I'm a sucker for an additive

Very interesting reading indeed. As with all research, however, one must first ask who paid for it? Thereby we can ascertain the agenda which they follow and determine if there is a possible bias in publishing.
The funding body in this case is SASOL - a chemical/refining company who happen to sell diesel fuel.
My personal feeling, completely as someone with no technical expertise in the production and blending of fuels, and only anecdotal evidence, is that premium diesel seems to work best for me. I have tried 2SO and didn't see any significant difference, whereas my LR engine seems to run smoother, quieter and more efficiently with Shell Nitro+
Just my opinion. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Looks like fair points they have made here. I'll be filling up with the best diesel I can find in future & will stop using 2sO.

Heads up simisteven linked to that study a couple of posts ago.
