Chalky,we get "diesel bug" in boat tanks that have been laid up over the Winter......I'd be surprised if they're a significant problem in a tank as small as a Discovery, where there is a regular cycle of emptying and refilling......they can be contaminated by the supply, but again,on properly maintained high turnover areas like a filling station,it shouldn't be an issue
....waits to be corrected "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Both mine have failed whilst using 2SO, and remained propped open so I didn't get the loss of power ?
After getting mine back last week I was sat down in the dealer whilst the service guy explained exactly what it was that my bill broke down to and on there was a fuel treatment ? Which I enquired about ?
After the explanation I got home and googled it
Apparently there are things living in the fuel tank ?
Tiny microbes that are black and gunky that clog up the fuel lines and filter and starve the injectors and do some damage ?
Baring in mind I only get to open up the glove box and cubby box without confusing myself ? Does this sound like something that is going on ? Mikey ? Have you seen this gunk ? That lives in these dark recesses ?
I've never looked in the tank ? But I know some of you have ?
Yes, it's some sort of additive, that was demo'd a while back
Quote:Absorbs and removes water.
Helps to prevent bacteria growth.
Biodegradable.
Helps clean out injector nozzles.
Helps to burn fuel cleaner.
Improved MPG & engine performance.
It is more common in cars that sit around for a long time, or don't get fuelled up very often. So probably nothing for a D3 owner to worry about My D3 Build Thread

Mikey, does the Disco have a fuel system that constantly circulates fuel through the system and back to the tank like my petrol Mazda did?
I only ask because I was wondering if adding 2 stoke after a fill up would still get thoroughly mixed into the diesel?

Yes, algae are problematic, in outdoor equipment if fuel cap is not properly mountes, or leaved open fuel cans, in the interface water-diesel algae grows and plugs filter when diesel moves and in tank pump takes it to feed engine. Big problem i had see many times.
The high pressure fuel pump eliminates the excess of temperature from the compressed diesel work(it cools by) by recirculating diesel,in the first moments from cool engine is done by pumping to the fuel filter only (hence the 4 tubes in it) and after the diesel gets to operating temperature and viscosity, the thermostatic valve regulates the flow between tank and loop in the filter to keep the temp at correct temps.
It uses too this recirculating system to eliminate air bubbles in the system to the tank to feed the hp pump with pure liquid, avoiding cavitation problems to it and inyectors

Just bought some Actevo from Wilkos £8 (£12 in tesco). I'm going to use it for the first time tomorrow, as you can only put £99 in max at the pump how much 2t should I add? Not sure how much it costs to fill a disco but I reckon £99 is about 78 litres Mods:

It's not critical, and you might decide to "over dose" for the first couple of tanks.

Am on a job 200km from home since a few months now. About 20 of those normal roads, the rest highway. Have done 6 weeks with Castrol Actevo 2T and then 6 weeks without in relaxed driving mode, relaxed in terms of acceleration and doing 120km/h on the highway. Then the same in more agressive driving mode in terms of acceleration and doing 135km/k on the highway.
Adding 300ml to 60l of diesel.
- With the Actevo noise is lower; cold starts don't wake up the neighborhood
- Am getting 3% reduction on fuel with the Actevo when driving relaxed.
- No difference in fuel usage when driving more agressive; with or without Actevo a 15% increase in fuel usage.
Takes two weeks (at 2000km/week) to lose the effects when i stop adding and takes one week for the effect fully set in.
Overall i will keep using it. Somehow feels better.
I buy it at 24mx.nl Dutch webshop for motorcross; €9,45 / liter; free delivery above €100.
Before i bought the Disco (2007 hse) i did this trip for a few months in a new model 5 series 3.0l four wheel drive all options.....perfect car......and got bored. The disco is, i think, the most unlogical choice for long daily commutes on the highway. However it easy to drive relaxed. I also find that doing the maintenance myself makes driving it a different experience.
Simply love it.
