Use Lubron Pro
The semi synthetic Lubron Pro is better and is what I use in the D4. Curiously it appears to be the same price as the non-pro version so no reason not to use the pro versionBrian - East Sussex

2 stroke
I have a starting problem with my 55 disco 3 which my garage cannot rectify. when the temperature drops toward zero the engine turns over but doesn't fire and a lot of very smelly exhaust comes out. when the temp goes up and the car does start there is a great deal of smoke and smell. have tried adding 2 stroke which has reduced mpg down to 22 and starting (as now in Alps) is no better. car only will fire if kept in garage with a heater on. it seems to start better if I don't allow the glow plugs to heat up. any suggestions...changed one egr last year.
I think this is probably the wrong thread for you post.
If you ask a mod nicely I expect they can move it to a thread of its own - where you are more likely to get a response.
My first thoughts are that I can't see how adding two stroke oil can possible reduce your MPG - please tell us what you are using and the ratio.
Good luck

Welcome DavidRedwood.
OK . Ratio is 1 to 200 of standard castrol. I was getting about 27 mpg but now about 22 but down to 18 on hills. Exhaust very smelly. It seems that the engine floods on starting and the fuel pump is over delivering.

The consensus seems to be to use Castrol ActEvo 2T
but either way the use of such an oil should not increase fuel consumption.

I think you must be referring to Castrol Garden 2T which is JASO FB spec.
If it's 100% mineral oil & not synthetic or semi-synthetic it may be OK, but it's not an oil with which I am familiar.

One more information to the interested reader when buying 2-T oil:
The "JASO" specification of 2-T oil means "Japan Automobile Standards Organisation"
JASO MA = for 4-stroke motorbike engines
JASO F = for 2-stroke motorbike engines
JASO FA = standard 2-T oil
JASO FB = low smoke
JASO FC = lowest smoke
For JASO F: the higher the letter behind the "F" the better the performance of the 2-T oil
For Europe, the equivalent of JASO is ISO:
ISO-L-EGB equals JASO F
ISO-L-EGC equals JASO FB
ISO-L-EGD equals JASO FC
I suggest that when you get back to the UK you get a good Indy, like Geoff. , to check everything over for you.

i have been using 2S oil from Screwfix but they seem to have changed their oil to 'no nonsense', label as follows. Is it ok to use - what should I be looking for on the label?
Cheers

I think mineral oil & JASO FC is what you are looking for in the specs

That oil would be suitable for pre DPF 2.5d motors but should use JASO FC spec for 2.7/3.0d.
Its best not to use the fully synthetic Jaso FD either.
Or better still use a diesel additive designed for the job.

Love to know how you're all getting it so cheap at Tesco; went to Lakeside yesterday and wasn't on sale on the forecourt, only in the main store at - get this - £12.00 per litre! Has some greedy manager been reading our forum?I'm off to a party with the RNLI tonight. They may not get together very often, but when they do, they certainly know how to push the boat out.

Those cheap cheap prices are about 18 Months ago now, the reason I am led to believe that it was sold off so incredibly cheap is that it was written off due to a problem with the tamper proof serrated puller around the bottle neck failing to come off in a oner ?
Leading to rips in the transparent filler at the base of the neck where it attaches to the red plastic bottle top ?
Not substantiated though ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !
