If you have steam from the exhaust it may be the EGR coolers leaking. Cheaper than a new engine. Thumbs Up

If there are no signs of a leak on your driveway, it could be the head gasket. I had this problem on a petrol car many years ago, it was using lots of water and steam in the exhaust.

I'm not sure whether a diesel Disco is fitted out in the same way. Just a thought.

the air has to be removed for the water to cycle properly just like your central heating system in a house.if you have air in rad it will not get hot. your waterpump cannot get the air out on its own,and is trying its hardest but is probably pushing against a (brick wall) of air and pressurising your expansion tank and you may well be losing it out the overflow.
water does not compress and if a leak gets into the bore of a cylinder a rod flies out the side of the block quickly.
have you tried any of the suggestions????
