Rear Disc Replacement How Much?

My car was in today needing some Waranty work doing asked them to look at parking brake.

They have advised me it needs new rear discs new pads and new park brake pads. Including fitting been quoted £531 inc Vat.

Sounds steep to me any thoughts? the car has only done 32k miles and I was told it was probably due to being used off road. I only used it off road once yesterday before going to the stealers.

The guy before me assured it was never used off road. I would have thought that rear discs and pads and park brake should last longer than this. They said the park brake was down to the metal. Could it have been adjusted wrong from day one is there any known problems. I did not have much choice as they said they had started on this.

Your feedback would be most welcome.

PS they said they wanted £100 to clean the brakes because they were dirty!!! with mud from my off road day yesterday.

Also it was serviced less than 800 miles ago at a different dealership, not even a mention they also did not do a load of waranrty work that was required.

Pick the car up tomorow evening - I wonder what the bill will have gone up to by then

sounds to me like you need to get another LR dealer - I would try Ripon Landrover - but unfortunately it'll be too far from you.
[I did though have the problem of rear discs wearing out before the front...but that was at 60k service]

Mine has done 63000, lots off road, just had the third set of rear pads and my disks are fine.

I can't see how park brake shoes can wear out at such low mileage, as even when you pull the lever at speed the car uses the normal brakes and abs until it stops.

This TSB refers to a broken clip which your car may have had in the past, and not had all bits replaced?

It may not be the answer, but your car has not done many miles has it.

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad I wouldnt mind but they are the experts Banging Head they should perhaps log onto this site

Any other help would be appreciated.

Email that quote to Mike Mullholland - Head of customer relations. (his email is in another thread somewhere), I am sure his blood will boil at that one. The old excuse of "Its a Land Rover what do you expect" does not apply on 30 - 40 k cars.

As I said, I'd find a new, more competent, LR dealer [irrelevant of the distance - within reason].
these guys would scare me leaving my Disco3 with them!!

He will get an email in the morning this will give anybody else a chance to make comment.

Is £531 resonable anyway?

The dealer started off with, Have you used the car off road?. This drives me really mad I would use stronger language but Martin would delete the post. If I bought a MUG and they said you havn't used this to drink out of have you.

It makes me soooooooooooo mad.

I was thinking of putting the tely on tonight thought. I would give it a miss because you should only look at it, not actualy turn it on. Its a flat screen looks nice don't watch it though!!!! it may break if it is used for normal purposes.

Gareth

How do you get a picture of your screen on to a post?

If it is a black art, forget I asked.

Someone will tell me an easier way but...........

1. I view what i want to post

2. I press fn + Prt Scrn (laptop keyboard, may be different on full keyboard) to copy the current window to clipboard

3. I load up Paint

4. Edit and Paste image

5. Save as JPEG

6 Go to Gallery, upload picture, upload the saved jpeg.

7. View the displayed gallery image of the jpeg

8. Display the properties window,

9. Copy the file location from the properties window to the clipboard

10. Paste the url of the gallery image between the [IMG] url here[/IMG] tags.

It takes seconds - honest!!

Cheers Gareth

Bloody hell that is really simple........not!!!
I will print your post and have a bash.

On Topic

dyparkes

Had my warranty stuff sorted a few months ago, TH White Swindon were great, but if it were my last dealer whom I shall not name, I would have had to mention my knowledge of TSBs and upgrades in order to get stuff done. Just shows how quality of service can vary

Choose another dealer or go in quoting stuff you seen on this forum is what I would do before paying for that work. It may need doing but a second opinion would reassure you. PS. I will clean your whole car for £100 not just the brakes Smile

Gareth, not faster, but an additional top-tip to share with all.

In Windows, the PrintScrn button captures the whole display image to the clipboard. If you hold down the Alt key then press PrintScrn, only the active window is copied - this means you don't get any 'spare' desktop showing around the window you wish to copy. This works for almost all applications.

Ive got it back new rear brakes - all the enhancements done, I had to pay the full amount £LOTS.

They didnt fix the steering knock because they said it needs a 4 wheel alignment HOW MUCH £480+ VAT FCensored Hell. 6 Hours labour.

I once swapped a body shell on a Ford Fiesta in a weekend with my Dad.

The Service Manager said they have changed how they do it apparantly LR have changed the way they do it from 2 hours to 6. This may save me a few thousand miles on tyres

The car is great apart from that - I don't think I will bother Tyres only cost £500 for a full set.

Any Thoughts
