HELP: VERY HIGH FUEL CONSUMPTION 16MPG URBAN
I just bought a MY05 D3 and imported it to Tanzania. To my surprise it's very juicy. I am not sure whether its the quality of Diesel or is it the car it self. Ive been on really long drives but the average still remains at 16mpg.

16mpg urban is just a shade under what I get on short local trips, usually 18mpg or so. Is that the trip computer or actual? If it is trip comp actual would be a bit worse as the trip comp lies by 2 - 5mpg.
PS I was going to say it gets worse when the snows start but then realised that won't be a problem for you.

Its actual plus the car shows the same. Only a handfull of petrol companies do the low sulphur diesel but i dobt their credibility. Would the quality of diesel affect the fuel consumption? Mines a manual course I have the Air Con on everytime but I feel its still consuming a lot.

I'm convinced that we're getting better fuel economy after the MAP sensor was cleared of its gunk. Mine's late 05 so MY06 and it probably had been crudding up over the years.
I don't believe that can be right. To date everyone who has posted finds that true fuel consumption is worse than the on board computer says.
I have a manual and regularly achieve 30 mpg on the display but 28.5 mpg brim to brim.

Your experience is the opposite of most - generally the computer shows more miles per gallon than that actually achieved.

Have you reset the car display?
It displays average since it was last reset which could be a long time ago (over 50k miles ago in my case) so may not be reflecting current usageThe End

The thing about "urban" is it varies so much. My urban is really slow, stop start stuff and I get 17.1 mpg (compared to 28mpg out on the motorway, which is quite normal).
Have driven in Dar I imagine yours is not dissimilar and the aircon will make a difference.VIN: A175A328***

You know how hectic it is to drive in dar. I've driven on the highway to Ngorongoro which is about 400miles but the average has never improved. I am a bit hesitant with fiddling with the map sensor. We don't have landrover professionals here compared to other African countries.

my auto improved after cleaning the map sensor, by 5 mpg (actual) but you do have to be caerfull, dont poke anything down the orifice other than a piece of tissue and only a few mm. mine was very badly choked. i have not used any sort of cleaning fluid yet as not to sure what product will be safe. but it defo made a difference.Buck blue, auto, hse, Loving it !!!!!!!!!

Hmm I get 30mpg normal driving and last long trip I did was about 33, towing the caravan I get 19mpg and I have a manual. That's actual cause the little trip monster lies like a trooper, in fact mine can't make it's mind up it changes all the time ... got addictive watching it though ... now I'm addicted to watching the little lying range monkey which tells me I can either reach the south of England or my local Tesco depending on how it feels
Edit - I too noticed a slight increase after cleaning map sensor and a bit of a smoother drive, although the smoother drive could be my imagination cause I wanted it to be better
Oh yeah and wind, incline, tyres, how many pies you've eaten etc will all effect mpg so no more pies drive downhill in a strong following wind on slicks and I'm thinking this will also improve the performance.
*disclaimer - do not really drive on slicks they look silly! erm no I mean are unlawful
