Rear Tailgate - Quick Question
Good afternoon all,
I've been having a look on the forum in relation to the rear tailgate not opening as mine has failed this morning.
From what I can read, it would appear that it is the micro switch on the rear handle that has failed on mine, the reason being that when I press the pre-programmed Land Rover button on the fob it releases the top part of the tailgate which would tell me that the actuator and all parts associated with it are fine and that the micro switch in the handle has failed.
Any ideas ?
If so, would this be a suitable replacement (Yes mine is silver !)
If someone could send me in the right way of fitting it I would be very grateful.
Many thanks[/url]

"Yes" is the answer to most of your questions, but Nick (TLO) will be able to provide the same thing for £50 delivered to your door.
Fitting is relatively easy several screws visible when you lift the tailgate, with three hidden behind the trim - which is very easily popped off to provide access. The above three hidden ones are a bit fiddly during reassembly.

Hi, I had the same problem with mine last week, it would work if you used the dashboard switches but not the handle on the tailgate. Before buying a new handle I had a look to find the problem was corrosion of the metal bar that acts on the micro switch. The micro switch was fine and once the bar was cleaned up all worked fine. You can access the micro switch and bar by prising off the rubber cover from the outside. Hope this helps.

I had the same with mine last year but the metal (alloy) bar had corroded to the point where it fell apart.
Simple enough job to replace the complete handle though.Clive

Got home from shopping and guess what? yes the tailgate would not open, top or bottom, had to crawl through the back to get the shopping out. Is this something that would be covered under warrenty or do I fork out for a new handle assembly.

Not sure about the warranty question, but are you sure its the handle? If it is, then you should have been able to open the tailgate by pressing both lock and unlock on the dashboard.
If it still doesn't open then its the actuator. Follow my guide for a quick DIY repair...

Looks great! One problem though.....
You now need to make your instructions as difficult as building IKEA flat pack stuff. I have a bucket of 3MM keys and a house full of crooked furniture.
Mike767, thanks. I was also thinking that we should get a kinda like deposit back if we take back all the bits of tools! I've got a loads of allen keys and those brackets for fixing wardrobes to walls! 8)
