You can't fit a bike rack to the LR roof bars |
|
I had to change the title to ellicit a response
Can anyone recommend a bike rack to mount on the roof cross bars of the D3?
I have a set I used on the previous car but of course these don't fit on the wider D3 roof cross bars
I don't need anything fancy, they're only light kids bikes.
Thanks D3 incl. genuine glass windscreen, front bi-focal headlights, full width rear bumper, self levelling washer bottle contents and audible 'tick tock' indicator stalk

The Thule racks come with two types of 'clamps' one is the standard 'round the bar' clamp and the other is made of long bolts with large square heads that slot int the cross bars - just lift the central rubber strip, unlock the cross bars and slide the locking piece out, slide in the bolts and replace locks.
If you intend to use the bike racks often the shorten the rubber strip so you do not have to remove it each time.
PS my Thule came with both types and at first I wondered what the bolts were for when I changed cars - Sorento to Discover - I found out LR Discovery 4 XS pulling an Airstream 532 Caravan also own (since new) a 1996 MGF

Yep real pig and my caravan is 2.5 miles away
The rack we have is the 591 - a very elegant, simple and easy to fit bikes and very secure. Seems most rack have Aero Bar fitting capability except the 530 and then you buy the T bar kit.
PS I haven't just rushed up to and back from the garage but did a 'GOOGLE'
Had the *F* since new - bought it sight unseen when it was launched in 1995 took delivery in February 1996! Spent last weekend driving around the Chilterns and Cotswolds staying in a small hotel on Cleeve Hill. Great fun - off to Monaco for an MG meet in September. Thanks.
Think it's the 532 for me, they're only small bikes for a nine and seven year old. D3 incl. genuine glass windscreen, front bi-focal headlights, full width rear bumper, self levelling washer bottle contents and audible 'tick tock' indicator stalk

In four years they will be BIG bikes for a 13 and 11 year old! A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
