A point to note though, I always carry the pot with me, as the police around my area love dip testing. The slightest hint of red in the fuel and they won't take any excuses.
didn't I read in another thread that the color is not the issue, that's just put in for visual aid but some try to use Red every few tanks and hope putting normal in will dilute.
however while the color may dilute the real identifier is a chemical which is virtually impossible to clean out.????Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

That's correct, I think the red dye is a form of bacteria and this is what they look for when they dip the tank !
The red diesel is an idiots guide of what not to do with it so that its a visual aid.
Unless you're colour blind ?
But the VOSA inspectors know exactly what they are looking for and it isn't 2T oil
I had mine dipped last year by an inspector who came to the estate where I work and he did a spot check on all vehicles. This was purely because loads of red Diesel was disappearing and the estate manager called them in. Mine was in the clear and I had totally forgot about the 2T having any effect on it ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !

I cleaned the MAP sensor 6 weeks ago on my 2008 TDV6 which had a fairly heavy build-up of the usual crud.
As the engine cover was off today I thought I would take a look at the sensor again to check all was well only to find that about 20-25% of the original amount of crud has already reformed. The car was new to me in August so I don't know if it had been cleaned before.
I have only covered about 400 miles in the 6 weeks mostly short runs to from work and have been adding 400ml 2so when filling the tank twice - last fill this week. Ave MPG 24.
Do people think this this a problem or just a "characteristic" of the D3?
I am wondering what the situation might be if I leave the MAP alone for 6 months !

With the your EGRs pumping in crud from the exhaust they will get dirty again. Only those with blanked EGRs stay clean.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Hi folks,
I cleaned my MAP sensor yesterday. It was fully cloaked, no hole visible. Sorry, was so excited that I forgot to take a photo...
Experienced a remarkable difference afterwards. The engine sounds quite different now, smoother and softer. Moreover the car pulls noticeable stronger under 2000 revs.
Thanks guys for the quick tuneup!!!
Andreas.

Hello everyone,
Have read this post with interest after suffering power loss with Tesco diesel. I thought I'd give this a go and found the sensor fairly well covered but not totally blocked. Put it all back together and she ran fine on tick over in neutral. 24 hrs later and she starts but no power and EML now on continuously with really black, funny smelling exhaust. Tried to check codes with my Argos / RAC code reader but can't seem to get a connection. Had to give up and come to work in my girlfriend's car - she not happy...
Please help. I only used WD40 and tissue paper but I think I've killed it.

Sounds likely, they are incredibly fragile.
Sadly they are not cheap either so worth seeing if anyone near you can do a check with their sensor before paying money. If you do need to buy one check the price for the complete intake too as for quite a while it was cheaper to buy the intake complete with sensor than the sensor on its own.

Engine Management Light. It's orange and looks like an engine and tells you there's a fault somewhere that needs downloading and de-coding. Hopefully I've used the right TLA for a Land Rover - some manufacturers call it the CEL - Check Engine Light.

Update....
Have now cleaned the sensor another 6 times using WD 40 and tissue paper. Result: now running smoothly, no smoke and enough power to reverse out of the drive! 5 mile test drive and she's no worse than she was before. However, EML is still on. I still can't clear the light or read the code so will take it to my usual LR specialist.
Will post again with any more news.

Well, not quite. At 146000k I cleaned mine today for the first time. EGRs not blanked off, but it was so clean I needn't have bothered. No T2 in the fuel either.
So for some reason, some stay clean2007 TDV6 SE Stornoway Gray
