Just been out to clean the sensor, 05 plate with 60K
The sensor had a dry deposit of soot on it. manged to get rid of it with a gentle scrape with the tip of a screwdriver. Hardest part was unscrewing the screw, had to go to tesco and get a Torx screwdriver kit.
Had the Landy out for a run sounds better but it may be that Placebo effect, It was serviced on Friday which may also be the reason.
Will keep and eye on consumption
Great site and great info great bunch of informants!! bought a 06, TDV6 on 28/08/09 loving every minute of it.. Had TDI & TD5s over the years now nothing compares to this beast.

Ok,
Had a couple of good 400 miles plus runs with 12.5 % country roads and 87.5 % Mway.first run got 510.1 miles @ 28.8 MPG,had that before,second run got 569.8 @ 31 MPG
Best actual MPG ever, car showed 34.5
So i think overall there is an improvement.

Just done mine, very mucky sensor, hole barely visible (59k, 05 plate). I know the previous owner had the EGR's replaced last year by an indie, do you think they would have cleaned the sensor when doing them?, will be interesting to see what the sensor looks like in a few months.

Well, after reading this thread (and watching my MPG diminish over recent months) i decided to check my sensor today.....

Not sure if it'll make a difference to the MPG....(time will tell).....but it certainly looks much better. Only took 10min. Thaks to original poster for tips / guide.......

Took mine out the other day for a re-check, I cleaned it originally when this thread first started, this was a couple of months after I'd blanked the EGR's with the BAS kit, It's still as clean now as when I first cleaned it
Just goes to show where all that cr@p comes from.
To be honest though, I can't say that the cleaning has made any difference to the performance or MPG in my case.Clive

just went from 11L/100km to 13,5L/100km
already had the sensor cleaned, and MPG was better than before...
BUT now I was shocked how much CR@P was on the damn thing...
today I had to put up with quite some SH... so went mad on the sensor with brake cleaner... cleaner than ever...
after the mad moment, realized that I might have over-cleaned it
HOW do I see if I've broken it?

Well, after cleaning sensor yesterday (see above) the MPG does seem marginally better (but not by much). However, engine does seem to run a little smoother and pick-up better at low revs.....so still worth the effort

Did mine last night, twas very grim.
The centre wasn't blocked but it was murky as hell in there! Took it for the briefest of spins, thought it felt slightly quicker on take up.....we shall see though

Just given mine the once over, MY08 with only 30K on the clock, very gungy crud removed, although the hole was still visible.
Makes me wonder how much crap is lurking in her lungs

Just done a shortish stint. Definite difference, quicker on the up take and more eager to kick down with much less of a boot full of throttle. Also looks to be less smoke......

I cleaned mine but only got out in it today and gave it a good caning and up comes special progams off
(i think thats what it said) and into limp home mode by the feel of it.
Pulled in switched her off and restarted and back to normal, got the FCR out and checked the codes and one was to do with the inlet presure Cleared all of them and caned it again and everything seem,s normal(praying)
Hi all, just remember that if you do dcide to get a new sensor, order the complete throttle body, it's cheaper than the sensor on its own..........And it comes with the stubby EGR pipes, butterfly valve and actuator, all the 'rings' and MAP sensor fitted I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.
