Andrew, I got 26.5 mpg (according to the computer and zeroing him when stationary) towing me 3.5t car trailer with an assortment of vehicles on from VW Passats to Honda Civics

My best is exactly that run, outward only (to see No 2 son in Leeds area) but on a very warm day in 2009, with M62 traffic doing 56mph all the way.
The D3 returned 35.6mpg on the little fibbing-screen!!!
I wonder if it's worth getting a replacement sensor, and if it makes no difference, selling it on to someone else to try the same thing... but £116, did you say?? 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Was wondering in that case of the oil/gunk affected the air flow past the sensor.....
... or if the "hole" hadn't been cleaned out fully / effectively... From comments on here it is obviously not an item to poke and prod forcefully, nor use the airline on . So a squirt from an aerosol seemed a safe (but possibly inadequate) compromise.

Did mine on Saturday morning. It looked like most of the pictures in this thread - a bit gunky but the hole was clear so has made no difference to the way the engine performs. My MY06 car's done >90K miles and the EGRs were blanked about 70K miles ago.
Going by the crud on the EGR stub pipes I removed from the intakes when I blanked the EGRs:

I suspect that most of the crud on the MAP sensor was deposited in those first 20K miles when the EGR valves were operative and that very little has been added since Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

Having almost broken down at 0230 hrs on the M1 recently, (see posting Engine system fault, started by Angelfire ), page 2 of that thread I wrote re.LR Assist diagnosed the Map sensor blocked, and stated that it was not an unknown failure.
In view of all that has been written since in this thread , and angelfire's thread refered to above, blocked MAP sensors seem to be a popular mallady that also takes the edge off of performance and fuel consumption, I am amazed that no one from a LR dealer or even LR themselves have made any comment , sugestions or even a remedy, even if the remedy is to remove the MAP and clean it out at every service: I am certain that these forums are read by dealers and manufacturers, as I do not believe that they can be that disinterested in the product.

Barry C-All - should some company produce the perfect product which would never brake that would put millions out of jobs --->stealers
nightmare scenario for them as they would never be able to sell anything else right

There would still be some jobs if they make a Discovery that 'would never brake ..."

Easy mistake to make Dunc, easy mistake!! Only saying that coz I did the same!! :snogger: MAF = Mass Air Flow, beside the filter box. MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure, under the engine cover as per DM's pic.

Andy: That's what I dont understand, mine was not blocked but the difference is substantial. Before cleaning it wouldn't have out drag raced a heavily laden Fiat Panda, now it's back to in remapped level (remap lost at turbo change, will get it back on). MPG is also back to normal, what I did on Sunday pre clean would have had 28 on the trip, it's sitting at 33.7! And the difference was immediate, nothing else different. Don't know why, hence me asking about airflow over and past the sensor. Don't understand it but the mojo is back so happy bunny.
