Checked and cleaned mine after reading this. Very gunky, just as in the pics here. EGR's not blanked. This is a MY2008 with 85.000km.

I'm gonna do mine at the weekend.

I'm planning on using brake cleaner - that's designed to evaporate pretty quick and does a good job of removing gunk! Thumbs Up

There seems to be NO common denominator !

I was looking at several posts thinking that 2007 on were cleaner ?
Maybe because of the the fact that EGR's cannot be removed from the later ones, but the above post conforms a 2008 one is gunked up too ?

Obviously a 2007 / 08 and on will be cleaner due to the fact it hasnt seen as many start / stops, winter starts etc etc but they appear to be all of a muchness, with the odd exception and then the ones with EGR's removed ?

To clarify on my post above : It looked a lot like Rentons picture on page 5, entry hole not blocked but the rest was a nasty sticky mess. Cleaned down the hole with contact cleaner and it took maybe 5 attempts until the liquid coming out was clean. Didnt notice any difference in driving though, but then again I didnt have any symptoms like the ones desceibed here to start with.

Removed and inspected today - gunky but not as bad as some. EGR's blanked late last year ..........
Cleaned up courtesy of Tawneyowl and having driven circa 70 miles since distinct improvement on pick up from standing start and under acceleration. Gonna be keeping an eye on this with some regularity.

Thumbs Up

Just cleaned. Looked very like DSL's original pic - gunky but aperture still clear (slighly occluded by gunk)

EGRs blanked last year, but I didn't clean this at the time..... will have another look in a few weeks.

Mines a 57 Plate with 37,500 on the clock

Mine was gummed up but the aperture was free, cleaned it off and washed it out with contact cleaner and it picks up smoother and on gear change "manual" it doesent drop the revs as much and pick up and engine braking appear smoother / linear ?

Mine's an 08MY manual. EGR's not blanked (cos I cant)
It's had EGR's and the sensor changed in the past (couple of years ago).
Sensor was totally gunked, with a soft gooey black pooh.
Would this actually affect the sensor?? I reckon it could still pick up a difference in pressure through that stuff.

Having now driven it a few times, I'd say it's a little better, but it's as if there's still another sensor suffering from the same thing. Thing I'll now take it for a nice long blast to clean it out. Morocco should do the trick Thumbs Up

Just done this, can't say it was as bad as others (27k miles on the clock, MY08 so EGRs NOT blanked):

After a good wipe, cleaning the inside with a pin and some WD40 which I swished around and thoroughly died (I also used a short burst from one of my scuba tanks, at an angle):

(just couldn't get the camera to focus Evil or Very Mad )

Interesting to note the part is made by Hitachi:

For those who are about to do it, also note the torx is a T25 Thumbs Up

More pics in my gallery under "servicing"

Will report back on changes in driveability after I have taken the car for a good spin around

Did my 09 50k car yesterday, very light gunk on the edge but the hole was clean.
No difference once done but I will check again in 6 months.
