Did a test today
Temperature inside the car 2.5C, "phoned" the car, FHB on for 30 min, blowers 20 min, at the end temperature inside 8.5C.
The result will probably vary a bit depending on fans speed.

I finished work this morning at 05:45 FBH set to run at 05:25 fans set to come on 10 mins after, it was -3 the car was completely white with ice. My windscreen was completely clear and the car was warm inside, did not have thermometer to test inside car but was nice and warm.

Hi Guys
Couple of things for you clever lot who have already installed. Does this also activate the fans in the back of the disco 3 and if so do you need to set them as being controlled from the front of the vehicle or does it not matter if they are switched for independant control from the rear? Also can you confirm exactly what panels you ended up removing to get the unit installed? And finally for now, did you bother disconnecting the battery as originally suggested or is it fine as long as you are fairly competent and if you do disconnect does this introduce any further problems for the rest of the LR systems?

And while you sage few are giving advice (hopefully!), now that you've had chance to experience this thing in operation, what fan setting would you suggest going for (i.e. approximately what fan speed would you set compared to what the rotary knob in the car gives - full turn, half turn, quarter etc.)

I ran another test, FBH with no fans, here's for comparison. Outside temp about the same.
FBH on 30 min, no fans, engine temp. after time up, about 1/3 of scale.
FBH on 30 min, fans 20 min, engine temp hardly showing.
So, it will be a matter of finding the right setting, but probably better to have the fans on a very low speed

Thats what I posted on my earlier posts, if you have the fans running to fast it will cool down the airflow, I am a mechanic and this was a trick I used to help cool a car down when it started to over heat in summer when I used to work the motorways and Blackpool illuminations..., I know it sounds funny but if you put your fans on full speed when your car is getting to hot it helps to cool the water down by dragging more cool air through the heater matrix to help the cooling effect. As long as you have enough water left in the system to circulate this old method worked a treat in the past.
It does not need much to fan speed to make it nice and warm inside the car...

Yes, used to be a car mechanic too and I used that trick too in some of my cars.
The fans are not set to a fast speed, but probably still a bit too much, so I will set the slower.

I have been testing the best combination of fan speed, time of running, and also to try it with the fan running from the start of the FBH.
I have now settled on having the fans running from the start and 30 mins duration with the fan speed set to lower speed, I would guess that the fan speed is like two or three lights on the dial for the manual speed setting.
This seems to give me the best alround temp in the cab. One reason I have gone for the fan's running from the start is I have just joined the black wire from the GSM to my old flashing LED that was there from my first install of the GSM without fans.
As both skydive and myself have found out you have to play around with the pot on the GSM to find a comfy setting for you.
Its just nice now to get in a warm car when its very cold outside, I was thinking about wireing up my heated seats and windscreen to come on from my second battery but I don't think I need it now with this setup.

I have managed to get mine working - thanks to the advanced guard
The timer for the FBH and the fan are working okay and it shuts down when the ignition is set to 1.
I do get the error message on the heater controls (flashing programme light) but this extinguishes after a few seconds. I get it even when I have not used the GSM to set the FBH.
Do others find the same thing happening?

It's great to see that all the little glitches have been sorted, Flack & Flydive have done a great job.
Unfortunately I still haven't received mine yet and I go back abroad to work on Tuesday for four weeks
I don't want to wish for bad weather but I'm going to be very disappointed if I don't get to use my GSM until next winter
Just out of interest, how many others haven't got theirs yet?
