Considering the post from Danhag considering the orange wire, saying the fbh should be given some time to shut down before starting the engine.
Would it be a good idea to try to connect the orange wire to the interior lights? These switch on as soon as you hit the unlock button on the keyfob. It might buy just enough time for the fbh to shut down completely before the engine is started.

Way, way too much fun.
Yes, that should work, the only problem I see with it is that you take away the flexibility of opening the doors while the FBH is running.

I figured out a way to use my homemade home automation system to start the fbh at a specific time thus using it as a remote timer.
I am able to send a command from my phone to my home server specifying the time I want the fbh to switch on.
At the specified time, the home server dials the gsm unit to switch the fbh on and sends me a text message to say it has done so.
@Flack
Did you try the black wire from the gsm box.
according to the manual it should have 12v when switched on. I don't know whether this changes when switch mode is set to w-bus?
You could connect the "flashing LED" to the black wire.
The LED will start flashing as soon as the heater-blower starts.
If you have selected an heater-blower delay, the LED will start after the heater is running.
You could connect the black wire of an webasto timer 1533 to the green wire of the gsm-remote control.
This way, you can switch the heater by the timer as well.
Otherwise, you can simply connect a switch between +12V and the green wire to switch the heater manually.
If you have any specific questions, please drop a line via e-mail, as we don't read this forum regularly.

Thanks danhag but my thoughts are that you would want the led to go out once the fbh had completely shutdown so you would know when you could reinitiate it using either the switch or gsm or mainly so you could start the engine without crating a fault? Is there not a pin on the fbh itself that only stops bein live after the shutdown sequence?

Kit arrived in the post just now (was a little surprised at how small it all was!)
Will spend the rest of the week digesting all the instructions, plus the findings of the trail-blazers before getting stuck in at the weekend (after taking a brave pill).
Any chance anyone can put together a nice summary of their working installation, preferably with piccies of the connections and where you've housed it all?

Just been out and took these pictures for you it took me 5 mins to strip down as its been off so many times lol.
After what I went through it should not take that long to do, had the old GSM unit installed in my car so I used the wire that was already in the car to the FBH, as this part of the job will take the most time to do if you have not got the old there to use.
I did not put my GSM unit in the glove box as I did not want a big hole in the side of it, I placed the GSM unit at the side of the glove box in between the heater vent. see pics here. I get good reception as well in this position.
The other unit just sits behind the HVAC panel as this needs to be close because the harness is not that long here with having to connect it to the HVAC plugs.
I would say the cigar lighter ignition switch wire and the wire going to the FBH is the hardest part of the job. If you look at the right side of the servo under the bonnet there is a rubber grommet use this for the FBH wire you might have to extend the wire to reach the FBH, this wire could have been longer, but I had a wire already going to the FBH through here so I just joined on to this one.

You can see the pot adjuster on the unit at the back of this picture, there is plenty of space behind the HVAC panel for the unit so don't panic.
As for the other wires to the connector on the right I soldered all these connectors just to be sure and to save having a big thick bunch of scotch locks.

The red wire at the back with the scotch lock on is the feed from the cigar lighter. this is the wire that the red and white & the orange wire connect to.

As far as i know, there is no specific hardware-output of the heater when it has shut down completely.

I found it easier to take the ignition switch power from the cigar lighter that is in the back of the console, the one in front of the rear seats.
That panel just pops out easily and it takes only a few minutes to lay a fully invisible wire from there to the back of the hevac panel.

IMPORTANT !
Please be carefull with entering the mobile-numbers.
Ensure that you don't entered the same number for
the master and the gsm-remote control by accident.

If you enter 2x the numer of the GSM-remote control,
the system will send permanently SMS to itself which
will cause a lot of costs if you don't use a prepaidcard.

Yes its a pain to get to that wire but I did it three years ago when I first installed the FBH mod so it was easy this time.

If anyone doesn't have the red wire in pin 2 on the FBH (2007MY onwards don't, I believe, but do check) or an alternative then a reminder that I have these available in the shop: http://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/index.php?act...oductId=3706 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I too, like Flack, did not want a hole in the glove box, so installed the unit at the bottom of the glove box with velcro tape.
Again like Flack I used the grommet in the bulkhead for the FBH wire, but in the LHD TDV8 it is of more difficult access.
Remember, once all installed you might find that the blower do not start, for this you have to play a bit with the potentiometer on the control unit, you might have to turn it several turns back and forth till you hit the right spot and you here them starting, then you can set the speed you like. To make it easier unplug the GSM controller and with a wire connect pin#3(red wire) with pin #1(black wire) on the plug to send a continuous signal to the blower control unit.
