It should fire up at temps below 5 degree C. Tell tale signs of it firing up are the smell of burning parafin and possibly white smoke from under the front N/S wheel arch.
If you haven't had any cold weather it shouldn't have kicked in.
There are some excellent threads on the site that go into much more detail than I have. Simply type FBH into the search engine at the top of the page.

2 degrees in Darlington this morning and mine fired up just fine. Would have worked in Pateley Bridge on Sunday morning too if we had needed to use the car before 9am.
Had one morning back in September when the temperature dropped to 3 degrees - that was the first time mine fired up this Autumn. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

I'm noticing all these reports from various parts of the country about FBHs firing up due to the cold mornings having arrived and wondering what's happening as it has been nowhere near cold enough here in the shelter of the Clyde Valley. Global Warming - you need it!
Well your wish came true...down to 5 deg c last night and 0 deg C this morning, just the next town along from you....
I got to witness my FBH power up for the first time.....not much smoke BTW.
Now, I need to go buy some gear to switch it on remotely, after reading all the stuff on here about the improvements in engine wear etc never mind the joy of no shivering for the first 10 minutes as you drive off to work on a freezing cold Scottish morning, its a must have modification.........

how where do i get the bits to make it work when you ring it up and is it a big job 1 being easy 10 hard
I've not done mine yet - just got to get a box and the GSM remote, but I'd say, depending on where you mount the timer (I'm going to put mine in the box in the 2nd battery box) then I'd rate it at about a 2.
But then I don't mind playing electrics Mark.

3 deg C this morning, my FBH 'finally' decided to awake from it's summer hibernation and sprang into life (and heat)
Bet it will lock out/give up/go on strike/have a strop/do anything but work when it gets really cold Never get mad - get even !!

First time I've had it under 5oC and the FBH started straight away.

To be honest guys I use mine all the time when I remember to phone it up, I use it to stop engine wear when starting from cold, just got in to the habit of doing it.

I had an indicated -2 in Brizzul yesterday and it fired up for the first time this season like a good un! Do feel sorry for the battery/alternator as as at the same time the seat heaters and front/rear heated windows went on too !
