I'm noticing all these reports from various parts of the country about FBHs firing up due to the cold mornings having arrived and wondering what's happening as it has been nowhere near cold enough here in the shelter of the Clyde Valley. .. little RED LED light that I have on the dashboard...
Is that a D4 only thing? I don't seem to have one?

Several times, but today was in earnest - when I got to the car at 10:30 despite being parked in the sun it was still only 3C. That slippy white stuff on the pontoons can't have been white paint then.......Rob Smith

Is the fbh supposed to come on when the
Engine is switched off or only after you start up
On a morning. Weekends are to short

bigtam, it will fire up shortly upon engine start if yer put the heater to max setting, it will run for a short while after engine turn off if the vehicle is yet to get to full operating temp.
mine fired up for the first time when 2 degree this morning, took him around the corner and back, turned the car off, the FBH carried on whiring for around 30 seconds.

Cheers for that
I don't think it's been cold enough in Leeds
Yet.
Is it the D4s FBH that fires up whether engine
Is running or not.
Some one told me that it will maintain
The water at above freezing temp while parked.
Is this the case or have I been the victim of

One way to find out if it's working is to put a bit of rolled up old rag between the back of the lights casing and that shiney pipe thingy.
If the roll is big enough it fits quite snug and looks like a great place for storing that "I might need an oily rag one day".
If after a week there's a nice scorch mark on your rag - like there is on mine - it's working!
A safer way might be clean off the soot from the inside of its exhaust pipe and then look to see if it reappears.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. Mine fired up yesterday morning (4 degs) and again this morning... something reassuring about smoke billowing from the front wheel arch coupled with the strange noises!...57 RRS TDV8

Mine fired up for the first time on Sun AM. 0730 and the dash was showing 0 Deg. Fired up the heated screen and it cleared in a couple of mins but nothing from the washer jets. Frozen solid and no defrosted area around them. Should they operate in conjunction with the heated screen?
It was strange getting out of a nice warm sleeping bag in a nice warm RTT and getting outside to find everything white and frozenHONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Monday - 4 degrees on the dash with "Max" heating deployed14 Disco 4 HSE
Please bear with me on this, I'm a relative noob to the D3 world!!!
A couple of times my FBH has fired up when the temp. display is showing 5 deg or less.
Engine and cabin warm up relatively quickly as expected.
However, even after a 30 mile motorway run, when I turn the car off and get out, I have noticed the FBH still runs on for a short period before shutting down.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it shut down whilst driving once the coolant reaches a set temperature (63 deg)??
Any Ideas??
Cheers, Chris.

Mine worked intermittently last year. This year it's been firing up every morning that it's been cold enough - working like a dream Interesting thing is that it runs pretty cleanly - last year when it worked it was very smoky - bellowing lots of white smoke. This year there's a couple of little puffs as it fires up, but then there's very little/if any smoke at all.2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +
