Right....got my FBH checked by the main stealer who informed me that it was 'actually working'!

I can hear it and I can now just feel the exhaust gasses puffing out...however... it still takes the car 1/2 hour to heat up! I can also put my hand on the exhaust, it feels 'luke warm' even in the really cold temperatures that we have been getting.....

so the question is:
how hot does the exhaust get?
How long does it take for a normal FBH to warm up to the 'mid point on the temp gauge'?

Thanks all.

PS - anyone fitted a DIY remote control to a Webasto DLC1 by any chance?

Within 1min you shouldn't be able to get near the FBH exhaust/silencer under the bonnet without serious burns !
The exhaust down by the bumper where you will see the smoke coming from will be warm.
The heat output at full burner is 5Kw.

-2 outside, first start of the day. Start the D3, wander round the car clearing ice and snow off all the side windows (about 10mins). Jump back in the car, temp guage:

half mile drive further on:

Wow, that's way way faster than mine!

Bow down

I've driven best part of 5 miles before I see temps like that.

The other thing to try...

Temp is at normal & outside temp <2deg.
Stop and let the engine tick over.
After 5mins the temp guage should still be at normal.
If the temp is going down and the heater starts to get cool the FBH is either not working or not working correctly.
The engine can not maintain a 'normal' temp in temps of less than 4deg.!

Ok been following this thread and http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic43944.html and have come to the conclusion that I need a Faultmate FCR to clear the problems with my FBH - I presume it's "locked out" as it did work but doesn't now, & I've got various other fault codes in the main system - HDC/special Systems off etc. that I also want to clear.

As far as the FBH is concerned, my drive is greater than 5% and I regularly run the fuel tank down to vapour so I guess I've done lots of things wrong! (should read the Forum more often!)

I've a couple of questions though

1) Does the cable supplied with the unit couple with the FBH system or do I need a sepearte cable?
2) The FCR is marked as "stand alone", but do I need a laptop to reset the FBH side of things?
3) I know BBS Spy is a Forum member - Can I get a discount by ordering the Faultmate through the Forum Whistle

Any replies gratefully received

Richard-35, unless there is a breakdown in comms between the workshop and the front desk, Yeovil LR should know better!

They replaced the FBH fuel pump on mine 3 weeks ago. The FBH itself was definitely untouched - 'cos I left a booby trap which was still there afterwards

Not sure John.

Been too busy using it Whistle to check.

30 minutes pre-heat from the FBH under the bonnet and a 1kW fan heater in the cabin. Nice and toasty...

You may be able to clear the lockout by pulling the FBH fuse (number 28 in the battery box fuse box) for a while. I did it within a minute of turning the engine off, and left it out for 30 minutes, but a couple of minutes should do Thumbs Up

If it helps, on my MY06 the fuse removal method doesn't work, it just logs more faults. They only thing that clears faults on mine is the timer or FaultMate. Maybe some models are different?

Cheers Martin - I'll give it a try, although as John C says, (reading through various threads) it just seems to log more faults in some vehicles!

It'd be nice if D3's had some consistencies - but, hey, it is a Land Rover after all Very Happy

FBH = F**kin' Blue Hands ...!

My FBH wasn't working.

To be honest, it has never worked ... I know this as I only read about them on here last month and previously had NEVER seen the smoke etc! I've had the car from 3months old.

So last month I booked it in to the dealer as it is out of warranty in January Shocked

To cut a long story short, I got it back tonight after no less than three seperate visits to them. Rolling Eyes

They could get it to work, but it would only run for 30 seconds or so, then cut out. Big Cry

I wanted LR to replace the whole unit (obviously) LR wanted the dealer to measure the amount of fuel into and out of the unit, and other mindless things - all this meant three trips to them with me keep saying "It still isn't working..."

Its okay though, cos I got a letter after the first visit asking me to comment on the service and to ask for my free LR bag when I next go in .... Apparently I'll get a letter everytime it goes in, so today (to save time I guess) they gave me THREE bags!

This third (they say final) time they've replaced the fuel pump to it ...

.... we'll see tomorrow if it works, eh? Question Yawn

Car was at the dealers for most of today only for me to be told, when I went to collect it, that it isn't the pump by the fuel tank that's faulty, it's the pump under the front N/S wheelarch!! This is now on order & should be available by next Weds. How many Censored pumps are there on this system? The only good news is that this pump costs considerably less than the one they originally said was faulty Laughing Knowing my luck though, by the time my FBH is actually fixed the weather will be much warmer so I won't get the chance to use it anyway Big Cry
