Car drove off the drive at -3 deg with the temperature gauge sat at 1/4 scale thanks to 25 minutes of pre-heat from the FBH.

The GSM mod was used for the first time in anger this morning - fantastic! I had to keep leaning out of my lovely warm and snug bedroom window to listen to the roar of the FBH sat on the drive.

I would like to give public thanks to all those on this forum who have contributed to the GSM FBH mod over the years. Bow down Bow down

And for those that haven't gained control of their FBH yet.... "GET YOUR A**E IN GEAR AND GET IT DONE." It's the best 200 quid that you'll ever spend on a vehicle...

I am really loving finishing what LR started. Mr. Green

John

There were a load of fault codes on the system and one of the electrical plugs was disconnected. All checked by Stratstones but they could not find the fault Exclamation They wanted the car for a day to diagnose the problem. TFC had it working within half an hour in the car park Thumbs Up All nice and toasty now Mr. Green

The Webasto oval timer will start up the FBH at any temp.

As standard the FBH is start up by the heating and vent controller via the CAN when the external temp gets to 6deg or below regardless of the engine coolant temp.
When the external temp gets to 5deg or higher the FBH is turned off by the heating and vent controller via CAN
The Webasto oval timer over rides this.

The aim of the FBH is to get the engine coolant temp to around 85deg and keep it there.
..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

Had my car at the dealers today (for the brake-pipe warranty fix ) & I asked them to check & clear any FBH fault codes 'cos my FBH has never worked. The result - a new fuel pump is needed, which means a new FBH unit as it's all in together. Cost, best part of a grand!! The dealer said this was an 'unusual' fault on a car of its' year & mileage (a 2005 MY with less than 30K on the clock). Has anybody else had this diagnosis & what was the outcome? Would a Webasto heater be a cheaper/better solution or are there any other fixes known to mankind!? Thanks for any info.

Wot !
The auxiliary fuel pump is not part of the FBH Exclamation

From the Land Rover Tech document:
'The auxiliary fuel pump regulates the fuel supply to the FFBH. The pump is installed in a rubber mounting attached to the chassis, below the RH front seat. The pump is a self priming, solenoid operated plunger pump, controlled by a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from the control module in the FFBH. When the pump is de-energized, it provides a positive shut-off of the fuel supply'.

If it is not under warranty go to a webasto dealer/agent

Thanks, Ian. I had it at the back of my mind that the fuel pump was not fitted within the FBH but the guy at Yeovil LR was adamant that it is, hence the need to replace the complete unit Exclamation I am now waiting to hear back from a Webasto dealer so, hopefully, I can get something sorted with them.

It was a cheeky -6 this morning and my FBH fired up. Hardly any smoke either. I really need to get the remote timer and all that set up so I can phone it to come on and watch the snow melt off. Smile

Is it possible to link in the heated screen or does that draw too much power to operate without the engine running?

It's too cold to do it now so I'll wait for the summer. Wink
