Yes General say it's fine to mix AT with AT2.

I had 4 fitted 2 weeks ago (taken a while to post due to new baby day after).
The one thing I have noticed that hasn't been mentioned is that my Disco feels like the suspension has been stiffened up. The ride is much less bouncy and the car pitches less in the corners. I can only assume that this is due to the sidewalls beeing harder than the Pierelli scorpion zeros. I have to say, this is a great bonus to the other advantages I hope to see when I use the tyres in a few more different conditions.

My fantastic car saved my life tonight. Had to take some severe evasive action while emergency braking from about 60 on a dark, very wet slimy Welsh B road (wouldn't even be classified in England!) the car and especially the new tyres performed superbly! Stuck like glue, and saved me from a mangle with the oncoming idiot who needed 6 feet more width than his actual car.
I love my car. I love my new tyres. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Just been reading this thread from start to end. Exhausted! Still very happy with the AT2s I had fited but after reading this I was starting to think I should have waited for the ATs. Looking at the General website info on the AT and the spider graph mentioned here before, essentially the 1-2% differences are irrelevant really with the aquaplaning issues of 10% improvement the only significance. After looking at this I feel a lot happier - not that I like aquaplaning. I guess the difference is simply down to the angular grooves draining water to give a higher area of rubber contact with the road. I must say the Ats do look great in the flesh (rubber) and I do agree with the "Top Trumps" analogy on the other thread.

Anyone else experianced them getting slightly noisier now they've bedded in properly with @2500 miles on?
Plus a small vibration through the wheel and left foot rest?
Especially between @50 and 65 MPH?

Just gone over 2k on mine. No such problems to report. In fact I still have nothing but good to say about them so far. I have had the opportunity now to have used them in so many different conditions including frozen and flooded roads and they continue to impress me. I might even suggest they handle as well as scorpions which I hadn't expected. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Just back from an 800 mile plus round trip to Northumberland covering motorways, a-roads, b-roads and a few not classifieds. The ATs were superb throughout, including some of the worst heavy rain on the motorway I have ever encountered with standing and running water aplenty. The ATs sailed (!) through without a glitch - way better than the stock Wranglers. Cannot speak highly enough about them and thanks again Andy for encouraging me to wait for them coming in. Having read the comments and questions arising from this topic I thought I would devise and apply an extremely devious and cunning technique to find out a few facts about the new AT tyre side wall that some here have raised questions and concerns over.
In short, I emailed General tyre and asked them.
My question to them was with regards to the AT2 and the new AT tyres. Is there a difference in the manufacturing process or the construction of the side walls on the new tyre as apposed to the AT2?
They have sent the following reply:

Dear Richard,
[Web Inquiry: 101028-000027]
Thank you for contacting Customer Relations at Continental Tire the Americas, LLC.
While manufacturing techniques and materials are proprietary information, I can tell you that there are differences in the tires. There is significantly more rubber in the Grabber, especially in the off shoulder areas. The new Grabber tire has a third ply that gives it greater strength and stability to withstand more off road abuse. The Grabber was also designed to be used 80% off-road / 20% on-road. The Grabber AT2 was designed 60% on-road / 40% off-road.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to respond to this email.
I think this gives us a fairly clear answer. According to them they have an extra ply to the side walls of the AT.

Very, very interesting info. Thanks.
Especially the 80/20 60/40 stuff. Very interesting indeed! And despite them being 80% off road, I'm finding them to be better on road than my scorpions or AT2's! D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)
