I want to see how they do in snow, as I'm off to darkest Germany next year. If they're OK then I'll take these over the ATR.
My Scorpions and I nearly left the road last week on the 303 in a horrendous downpour. Very surprised that we nearly lost it. They're worn, but a good few mm from the indicators. Pretty freaky when it happened.
Anyone with AT noticed a change in MPG? PAGODA

Agree, but those that are waiting to purchase are hearing nothing apart for "I go mine fitted today" , I have been offered a set locally, but before I spend my hard earned I wanna know what they are like in Heavey standing water, maybe Snow, a little mud.
Thats all....

From the last trip reset I had done over 1100 miles mainly motorway before setting off to AJS, the reading was 27.0mpg, On arrival at AJS 120miles later it was at 27.4mpg. Back home another 120 miles later it was 27.5 mpg. Both journeys at motorway limit-ish! and traffic jam free.
For the pessimists, the rate of change was not so good, so perhaps less mpg.
For the optomists, the mpg increased, so more mpg.
You can choose to decide what you are...

I admit that even though I'm not in the market for any A/T tyres at the moment, I've been the one giving Andy the hardest time about these tyres
I'm still a bit dissapointed about the lack of solid info regarding sidewall strength and real A/T tyre driving conditions, but I guess this will come out when people start using them for expeditions and more serious off-road stuff (I'm talking about lanes, tracks, mountains and sand rather than trials and mud-plugging)....
For what it's worth, I DO think they look very nice - possibly even more so than the ATR 8) but then again I'm not personally too arsed about how they look, rather about how the perform and last when pushed a bit.
As for being aggressive, you've can't be serious if you say these are much more aggressive than the ATRs - maybe very slightly, but not even close to the AT2. They are certainly not 50:50 tyres even by a long shot.
redjelly5000 - I'm not having a go at you with the above comment Your reviews so far have been very informative, and coming from the AT2 you have a good reference on which to base your comments
If I were in the market for some, then they would definitely be on my short-list, together with the ATR and the Conti CrossContact AT (which in my opinion has an even more aggresive tread pattern then either of the other two), but money aside, I think at the moment I would still be plumping for the ATRs due to the proven ability.....although obviously this could change significantly once a few people have done some serious and varied mileage on the new Grabber ATs.
I also wouldn't be too bothered about analysing mpg too much.....if you want to worry about fuel consumption, then you need some Pirelli Scorpions or likewise, but A/T tyres are made to do a job and their ability to do this is the important bit

All I would say in response, is wait until you see some in the flesh. I think you'd be surprised at how aggressive they look close up. I was very surprised when I saw them, and even more so when they went on the car. Don't know if anyone else thought the same. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

I'm really not trying to compare the Pirelli ATR with the GG AT, as I've said on several occasions I think it's great that we have a bigger choice of tyres for our vehicles.
However, I do disagree with redjelly's comments about the Pirelli ATR. The ATR is a very capable All Terrain tyre, don't be fooled by the less aggressive tread pattern. I speak from personal experience of driving my own D3, with ATR's fitted, on lots of different off road terrain including mud. They performed well last winter in the ice, slush and snow. I've also read good reports here on the ATR's ability on sand and their durablity is well proven. It was voted best AT tyre last year by this lot: http://tyres.wordpress.com/2009/01/23/pire...ears-best/
So in summary there is now a choice of good All Terrain tyres for the D3 in 18" and 19" sizes and in 19" for the D4 owners.
I'm sure which ever brand you opt for, AJS will be delighted to sell them to you

Very wet Friday night - very pleased with grip levels.
I re-read General website again last night, the spider graph has a direct comparison against the AT2 and the AT is all round better. - but no comparison in Mud in the graph ?

I'll take your word for it, as I've never used them. I would say the same about the GGAT though, as although people are observing that they look less aggressive, they seem to be performng very well so far, like you suggest, the looks can be very deceptive. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Well, for those waiting to see what they are like in cold conditions, I think you may get your wish this week. Snow already reported in Scotland, so fingers crossed
Had mine out in heavy rain the other day on the M25 car park, which for once was pretty clear, and I can only say that the GGAT felt much more sure footed than the old Wranglers ever did. That said, I am not sure how happy the guys and girls were behind me - I can only imagine the spray may have been a little heavier
In reality, these are new tyres to the retail market. Yes, the makers will have tested them everywhere, but it is only as we the users get them into off road situations, snow, rain and mud that you will get honest and open feedback. And that, my friends, will alas take time.
Sorry, appreciate that is not much use if you are waiting for new boots, but sometimes in life one has to take a leap of faith. I did, and so far I can only say the tyres are much much better than the ones I had before (considering my style and range of D3 driving to date). So would it be possible to mix these with AT2's ? as they are similar in a way as the stocks being run down or stockpile a second set?....
