Untill you use them you can't judge.
If you are a Pirelli man you will stick where you are nine times out of ten, just give your eyes time to focus on this little baby, it's very good.

Really? Makes my £155 fully fitted for the AT's at the same dealer even better value then. Lloyd "Phat Face"

Yes they do, but I wasn't citing them for their cheap prices! Just for the way they are pitching it, and I've seen many others doing the same.
I wonder how the longevity of the GGAT and the ATR will compare? I've never managed to get more than 10k out of my Zero's, but 35k+ on AT2 on the same car. GGAT claims 50-60k but I don't believe it! Still, if that's what they're claiming, maybe 35k to match the AT2 will be more realistic?? Here's hoping. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

The GGAT will come down in price sooner or later too. It's only 2 weeks old and bound to be at a premium. Look at how much the ATR and the Zero were when first launched. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Andy, Total agree, I've not even seen a GG AT let alone used them. I'm really not trying to compare the two anyway. I was just responding to redjelly's comment that "there is no other AT tyre in the 19" size" because I and others here would disagree with that.
I've got no brand loyalty at all when it comes to tyres. When I bought my Pirelli ATR's in 2009 they actually were the only AT available in the correct 19" size and they had already be evaluated favorably by Ken and others here inc. yourself iirc. Fortunately I find that they ideally suit my needs.
I may well try the GG's next, but initial thoughts on looking at the photo's of them are that they have a more open tread pattern than the ATR, which I don't really need. If I did less road miles and didn't have a set of MTR's , then probably the GG AT's would be the ideal "one tyre" compromise. Although it's of no consequence, I think the GG AT's look better.
Redjelly: Looking at how my ATR's are wearing, I'd expect to get 35k miles out of the set, maybe a little more. But most of that mileage will have been clocked up on motorways cruising at 75 mph, which isn't very hard on tyres. I think that the most I've got out of Scorpions is close to 20k. The D3/4 weighs so much and has lots of torque, so it's going to be much harder on tyres. As such I don't take much notice of estimated wear rates. Plus individual driving styles account for considerable differences.
Phat Face: £155 was a great price, although I've no idea what AJS is selling AT's for. I think that Protyre do seem to vary their prices accordingly. Their a big group so presumably buy in large quantities?

Got the new AT fitted yesterday, thanks ANDY and guys. Pics in my gallery.
It's always good to get some new boots....
The P zeros that came off were on the markers,so well worn. These new ATs are quieter than those. The radio was on level 12 on the way down and 11 on the way back. You can hear a slight tread hum, but they don't drone and overall were quieter.
Steering is lighter, but I put that down to having treads, rather than nearly slicks!
For me at 99% on road and very occasional soft off road (campsite, grass car parks, tracks, etc...) they'll be great. I am expecting greater snow traction and wet weather performance.... bring on the weather!!!

If it aint broke, don't fix it! If they are ideal for you, stick to them, especially if you can get them cheaper.

Again, I didn't say that! I said: redjelly5000 wrote:The way I see it for the 19" customers, there isn't an alternative. which I still think is true, as regardless of what anyone says, the ATR maybe ok off road, but it is still a road biased tyre, which is plain to see by looking at it, compared to the likes of the AT2 for example. Even this new GGAT is not as aggressive looking as the outgoing AT2, but at least it is plainly obvious that it is a true 50/50 all terrain tyre. For me on the farm, (and as Andy said before we all have our own uses and opinions) the ATR would not be aggressive enough.
LT wrote:most of that mileage will have been clocked up on motorways cruising at 75 mph, which isn't very hard on tyres
In Mid-Wales, and the Welsh mountains, it is up-down, stop-start, hard on the brakes, hard on the tyres all the time. I have never changed brake pads and discs so often until I lived here. That said though, the AT2's still gave me 35k in those conditions. The Zero's stuck like glue, and were unbeatable on road, but so soft, and the local roads ate them alive. As I said, I don't believe the GGAT will do 50-60k either, but I'll be happy if they are hard enough to manage 35k like the AT2. As for my individual driving style.... ask the Mrs. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

One thing for sure it's a very busy thread, I recon it's going to hit 10,000 by the weekend.
I think it's a good thing to hear all the different views from end users and hope all are happy.

ATR really surprised me when I first used it in mud. I shared the concern that it was too road biased, but it really does get traction in situations you would expect it to fail in.
Thoroughly looking forward to seeing what the GG is like over the coming months. I'm certainly not going to cross them off my list. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
