The AJS guys fitted my new boots on Friday - what a great team of guys, and even with the gaffer away they were a pleasure to deal with
First impressions are that these are a great improvement on the stock Wranglers, even though mine were well worn. Road noise at motorway speeds is probably lower than the Wranglers, although there is some slight increase in noise at between 30 and 40 mph. When I say slight, I mean you have to really listen for it.
Handling wise on-road (where this car lives 90% of the time) is tighter. Turn in feels more responsive, steering more direct. Going over potholes and the like is much smoother than before.
Not tried off road yet, but I have a couple of fishing and shooting trips that will try things on deep muddy ruts, grassy side slopes and steep rocky tracks. I will report back on those soon. These situations (plus snow in the Alps) are why the Wranglers were useless.
Interestingly, I had not noticed the off shoulder blocks on the tyres until they were fitted. This should be a great help in muddy ruts where I know the Wranglers were poor. D3 - 2008.5MY HSE, Stornaway Grey, RSE etc - all the toys

Well it looks like you are liking the General AT as on returning from France this morning the boys have emptied my cupboard of them.
Thanks for all the feedback lads, it is great for other D3 bods to get this information and myself.
Thanks a million
More in towards the end of the month.
Andy.

I got mine fitted on Saturday - thanks guys! First impressions are good - not noticeably noisier that the wranglers they replaced. No drop in fuel economy so far. Have yet to try them in mud, but will write again when I have. The way I see it for the 19" customers, there isn't an alternative. Despite the rave reviews so far from the people who are using them already (inc me) there is no other AT tyre in the 19" size. Even the ATR is considered a large %age on road tyre and only a small %age off road. I have been waiting for a 19" AT since I owned the car 2+ years ago. I would have bought a set of any AT's that came about in 19", but it just so happens the ones that showed up on the market first are great! D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

That's not Pirelli's view, check their website. Nor is it mine.
Whilst the GG AT looks more aggressive and therefore could well be superior to the Pirelli ATR in off road use. Don't dismiss the off road performance of the ATR. I tried in vain to get stuck at VA's crossing on Salisbury Plain when my set of ATR's were new. Since then I've been off road on a weekly basis and never had any issues. In fact I've not fitted my set of MTR's since I've had ATR's (except for one day last winter so see how the MTR's performed in the snow). I know that others on the forum have used them in some pretty tough places, where I believe they outperformed the GG AT2's.
It has to be said though that the D3/4 is incredibly talented off road regardless of what tyre are fitted

I didn't.
But some of their retailers are not selling it that way.

Well, it's an All Terrain not Mud Terrain tyre, so maybe some retailers are pitching it differently to others.
As for price, they are cheaper than the GG AT's where I live at £166.99 fully inc. or as Blobby discovered: Protyre Glos £162.42 each fitted for Pirelli ATR & £163.28 for General AT's.
So 4X4tyres.com would seem a tad expensive at £207.51
Anyway it's great that we now have a bigger tyre choice
