Not a good idea to mix tyres.
General AT cheaper than Pirelli ATR.

Surely it cant be that bad to have different tyres on different axles?
As long as they are the same from one side to the other on the same axle, what difference can it make from front to back?
He says hopefully.... as I am in the same position.
I was looking at getting new AT's on the front quite soon and then some more for the back when they wear out in a few months.[/quote]

To give you an idea, I just bought a pair, £120 fitted. Gutted really, was holding out for the new AT's but had to do it to stay legal for a journey I had to do. 1 week later the AT's were available! D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

If you had two pairs of road tyres, maybe, but two sets with very different handling characteristics might get interesting. I'd guess that having the back set lose traction while the fronts still had good grip might be a lot like sticking the handbrake on in a normal car...

If you have or have seen these tyres, please let me know how many plies there are in the sidewall, and overeall - should be written on the tyre.
Thanks!

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

FYI: I measured the tread depth today, and they have 10.5mm. This compared with 13mm on a new AT2. Definitely not so aggressive, but they still look great, and the LRO article says the MFR's claim 50-60k miles. Hmm.... Time will tell! D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

So far so good all positive feedback, they are loving them.
Next lot in end of the month.
These have been fitted to D3/D4 and FFRR
The wet weather performance is outstanding.
No one yet has tried them in the mud, not that I am worried as it's an AT tyre.

I haven't actually seen any feedback from people yet (or did I miss it?). Lots of people have said they look nice, but that doesn't help much....
Why shouldn't an A/T work in muddy conditions? I'm not talking about serious mud-plugging, but if they don't work well in light mud, then it would be a bit worrying
Also, can anyone let us know something that is important - the construction? Are the sidewalls definitely stronger than the AT2s and if so, how are they stronger? I've been looking into this online and can't find any real information about it....
