Multiple fault lights

Hi guys

Been a happy Disco3 driver for past 6 years, 258K kms since new, with very few hassles. Have always serviced at LR service centre but all of a sudden things are going wrong and I'm getting frustrated with LR who cannot clearly diagnose the problem.

Similar to other posts:
Car lights up like a xmas tree, suspension lowers, traction lost. F in km window. Messages:
suspension lowered
transmission fault
limited gear available
hdc fault
system not available
(low coolant level)

Symptoms similar to EGR sensor problems in the past (replaced 3 times).
Service centre only seeing communication errors from external sensor and suggest fuel pump replacement (very expensive). Definately not EGR.
Car returned to me on Friday and drove in sunny 20 degrees for past 3 days - no issues.
Returned to the Centre today for coolant resevoir replacement (and stupidly told them the problem had disappeared over the weekend).
Drove home in the rain and WHAM - I'm hit again with the same issue 45 minutes into the journey. Frantically head for the hard shoulder in peak hour traffic, shut down & start up, problem clears. Can happen 1 to 6 times over 20 minutes.
And service centre guys are telling me to go Google the problem! Now I'm going Censored BEZERK!

So I hope you can give me some friendly sensible advice? From previous posts where do I start ?
- brake light switch ?
- ride height sensor?
- battery ? (never replaced in 6 years!)
- water getting into electrics?
- fuel pump?

Hi guys,

You are not alone in this. I have the same problem. Have replaced brake switch, alternator and battery so far. LPFP next, then it's going to be a long list in order of ascending expense :/.

As soon as we get a fix, we'll post it. In the meantime, you are not alone it would seem Sad

Best,

Steve, we resolved my issue. Problem got progressively worse and invariably happened while accelerating. Replaced the high-pressure fuel pump (€1200, vat & labour incl) at a local 4x4 workshop. Now I'm back to being a very happy DISCO3 driver again. Peter

multy function faults

Can anybody help.My disco 3 keeps letting me down with the dash lighting up all faults, the info panel
tells me there are transmission and hdc problems.I first broke down telford and had to be towed into
the local landrover garage they said it may be the instrument panel which was changed at £390.00
the fault came back after a couple of days.Iwas then towed into the main landrover dealers in
Wolverhampton.they said it was mice nibbling the cables and proceeded to take out seats carpets
transmission tunnel and dash they said they found the defective cables and tested it replaced all seating
back, another bill of £790.00 next day it broke down again I noticed that first the yellow parking light
came on then a few miles down the road the dash lit up all indicators flashing I was able to drive it home
but as soon as I turned off the ignition it would not start all lights flashing I disconnected the battery
reconnected next day and it started left it running for an hour no probs took it out for a drive and the
same happened.The vehicle is a 2005 manual s.Thanks

So, you car was ok until it moved yes?
Wheel speed/ABS sensor. Check rears for corrosion at joints.
Could also be brake light bulb, switch, alternative or battery.
Check those things first then move onto the serious stuff after that
If your dealer is ripping apart interiors then that suggests to me that they don't know what they're doing.
Get it sorted by someone who does and get your money back as I strongly suggest you've been tucked up.
Don't mice normally eat fuel tanks first IIRC?

We had similar faults, HDC, no air suspension controls etc
after wiring was checked, turned out that yaw sensor was faulty - a bosch part under the centre console inside the car. all faults cleared after that.
there is a recall for range rover with faulty bosch yaw sensor, no recall on D3 though although we are talking with land rover on that one.

an abs sensor failed on front right wheel and also generated a lot of alarms. no speedo, no abs, no off road settings etc. changed the sensor and cable and again all faults cleared

could be wiring, look behind front passenger wheel arch liner (outside the car) on a rhd car. there are several connectors and cables which can become damaged or connectors dirty. clean up with wd40 or aerosol cleaner.

also a faulty brake light switch or failing switch can cause issues too - i changed mine as part of our trouble shooting
also all brake light bulbs must be original land rover - cheap easy change as the electronic sensors don't like cheap bulbs and then assume there is a brake system fault and this can cause error lights too

good luck with the troubleshooting - is there a decent independent land rover specialist with the test kit to connect to the car and diagnose the errors in real time ?

Hi.I have taken it to the only independent landrover repairers in the area they failed with
fitting the new clocks. It was them that advised me to take it into Stratstone as their diagnostic equipment
covered the 2005 disco. Can anyone recommend a specialist,I forgot to mention there is also a very
slight miss fire hardly noticeable. Looks like a long frustrating time to try to sort it out.

Multi lights lit up on dashboard

This morning's drama hoping for ideas:
Car was unlocked last nite I opened the left passenger door and the alarm went off, got the key turned it off and carried on!
Went to drive the car and everything has gone mad...
1. Hazard lights on
2. Special program's off flashing
3. Various other error codes
4. An 'E' is displayed in the gear selector display
5. Temperature gauge goes to the top
6. The car won't start

The left passenger door lock was sticking so I waited 1min as per book and that's shut now, but dies not fully unlock when you lock and unlock

I do know that my right rear indicator light blew which I have got a replacement bulb for

Any ideas???????

Had all the problems related here several times:

- Special programs off
- suspension lowered
- park break fault
- HDC off

looked all the tail lights, no success. Sent to an independent specialist and the result was a ABS sensor fault.

the car is returning from the dealer today. let´s see if stays like that.

MULTIPLE FAULTS, ONSET FROM BATTERY DRAINED, SUSPENSION FAIL

Hi, I just had the same problem in this thread on my 06 Tdv6. Extremely frustrated. The onset started with battery died leaning less that 5 volts. Replaced it with a 120 amp. The car was good for one week, then suspension fault. I tried to reset with an Autel, then all warning faults erupted.

I will try to run the SDD tomorrow and see how it goes.

If it were a faulty brake light switch, why can't it be detected as a code itself instead of lighting up dash and put the in F (fail mode).

Now my car is stuck in an incline and I have choke the wheels since the park brake fail as well.

It seems like there problem is so common, yet the root cause is a composite factors.

I hope to find the root cause and will post something here.

Managed to get rid of the Multiple Faults. Engine starts and running.
Apparently, there was some fuses in the glove compartment that was not short, but giving troubles.
Replaced them with original spare fuse. The old fuse are not shorted. Simply does work.

Now, suspension fault still persist.

Alternator charging seems ok.

I have microwaved the silica in the air dryer. But suspension still not raising. Diagnostics shows zero volt at the compressor. Any advice?

I will try to get a new relay tomorrow, and perhaps sets of bulbs for the brake lights, just in case.

Guys,

help me out here.

according to the dealer (200 km away from me....) there is a small drive/gear on the end of the propshaft that got damaged, and that is affecting the ABS sensor... I imagine that the sensor probably reads the wheel rotation somehow and that is what is busted...

he said that I need to change all the srive shaft (right side front) and in Brazil it costs around EURO 1000,00.......

does anybody had any similar problems???
