Getting a wee bit twitchy now. |
|
07 Plate HSE. Clearing the traffic lights yesterday it all went pear-shaped. Warning lights. Thought I'd knocked it out of Drive. High revs. Had enough momentum to turn into side road and stop. Engine still running so selected P and switched on the hazards. S**t! Turned off the engine - first mistake. Limited gears available, Transmission fault. Park brake, blah, blah.
Now I'm disabled so my physical response is pretty limited. Got out my Hawkeye and read the following codes:
U0101, P1623, P0850. Cleared them but of course that doesn't help me. Called out recovery. Didn't know about Hard resets and all that stuff. Learned how to disengage gear selector from P (so did the recce mech). Recovered to Indy in Chesterfield.
Gave it until 2pm today and phoned them. "Oh, we're just testing it now. Have spoken with LR, might need a new ECU". Hang on, I thought, seems a bit drastic (and expensive). I mean, I explained what happened and made the point that I'd read the faultcodes, my intention being to say I'm not entirely stupid. We shall see.
At least they gave me a little Vauxhall thing to drive in as I could be admitted to hospital at very short notice so need wheels......but a toy car? Perleeze, I are a Disco 3 man, this is so cruel. Somebody please re-assure me and, if necessary, provide me with some searching questions about ECUs etc for when I next see how my poor, little motor car is.

My Disco 3 failed its MOT on a few small things which have now been fixed. The biggest issue was front bushes, i've replaced both front arms with new genuine parts but now when the car is started the suspention will not raise and several faults come up on the dash! Something along the lines of HDC, transmission fault, special programs not avalible etc. Its an 06 model, TDV6 S manual.
I've tried the hard reset as in the Wiki with no joy.
Now i'm stuck with a lowered car with no MOT! Is there anyone out there who could plug in a decent diagnostics tool for me and tell me whats up with it? Obviously you'll earn beer tokens!

I have a very similar fault to those described above, I hope someone can help!!
I stopped the car which had been running fine, then went to start it again and the battery was almost flat with the starter solenoid just clicking and not turning over the engine.
I jump started and moved the car near to a battery charger and charged the battery I then started it again and the dash lit up with all the faults above (no air suspension, brake faults, hdc faults, transmission faults). I then shut the car off and tried to restart and the battery was completely flat again.
Does anyone have any idea what they think it might be?

Check your alternator is working properly, like charge output, ive just had mine replaced because mine wasnt working as it should, luckily caught it in time so it didnt take the battery out.

Thanks very much, I was thinking that it was a battery and alternator fault.
Is it possible for the alternator to discharge the battery so quickly??
Thanks

Oh yes it can do your battery, check the alternator charge on Rickover, it should be 13.4 to 14+ volts . If not change it.

2005 auto LHD - dashboard alarms and error messages |
|
Occasionally I will get an error message displayed with either brakes warning light or the orange car symbol. I don't know how I found it, but if I switch off , let all messages clear and then restart whilst holding the height control button forwards (raise) then the messages are displayed, then cleared and the car is normal again for days or weeks.
Sometimes it would happen if I pulled away in drive and then stopped in drive with my foot on the brake, say when my passenger shut the gates behind me for approx 20 seconds, especially if I pushed down hard on the brake pedal.
This week I had HDC warning, all special programs not available, car lowered to access position. Tried my usual trick, but didn't work. Left it switched off and that hasn't worked either.
Not yet disconnected the battery or tried the hard reset (touching +ve and -ve battery leads together after disconnecting the battery first)
After reading the posts today, I see I may have several issues - wiring issue behind battery, wiring behind wheelarch liner, possibly a brake light switch (new one on me) - I do have all brake lights working and haven't recently replaced a bulb either.
Last year I had all of the suspension bushes replaced and the suspension was reset and no errors or messages afterwards until the first one listed above several months later.
I don't have access to a code reader, but will get a cheap one to read the errors if it helps. The local land rover dealer to me closed a few years ago.
So, I'm asking for opinions/ideas - the brake light switch - is there a reason why this causes these error messages ? I'm happy to change it if it will fix the issue
I can raise and lower the car using the programmable button and lock/unlock on the remote, as soon as I go to drive off, the car lowers to access mode again.
All suggestions welcome
thanks

OK, so i'll bite... I found another fellow with nearly identical problems. PM me and i'll try to connect you with him.
In the mean time, how about you describe the accident, and damage, and post some pictures if possible of the damage. Are you sure while you were gone for three months, someone didn't steal your wiring? haha..
Cheers

This Mr. Frossard is from this forum regarding your troubles.
The post can be found here... http://www.landroversonly.com/forums/f41/l...post496705
Your issue is the CAN bus cutting out, that is why the flashers are going off. It needs to be hooked up to a diagnostic system to see what is cutting out, and where the fault progression starts. In the other forum, I listed the possible ECUs that can cause this, but it can also be a wiring issue between any of them.

Disconnected the battery and fitted the new brake light switch following the very clear instructions I downloaded from this forum
Reconnected the battery and still have the multiple faults displayed, no HDC etc.
Tried it in low range and pushed the yellow HDC button - system appears to work, brake is applied automatically if I let it run down a hill - so seems OK.
Disconnected the battery again and this time tried a hard reset, connected a jump lead across both cables and left it for 2 minutes. Disconnected cable and left it all for another 15 minutes.
connected battery (+ve first) got a little spark/click when reconnecting the -ve. Closed bonnet and started ok, but still have the error messages
I can raise and lower using the remote with hazards on, however height drops to access level when I pull away
any suggestions for next diagnostics ?
thanks

Left the battery disconnected all night
still have the faults this morning
jacked up the car a wheel at a time, started drivers side - nothing obvious, checked all connections and cables for brake wear and the height sensors
got to the drivers side and found a problem with the anti roll bar stabilizer link bar - it was not pushed into the socket at the top but had some how come out of the socket, then the wheel had hit it and bent it 90 degrees
luckily no damage to the brake pipes, cables etc, just scraped some paint and the label on the suspension shock absorber/damper
It's part number LR014145 doesn't seem to be different part for either side
will call and order one tomorrow
here's a picture of the part, i'll post a picture of the bent one tomorrow
hopefully once this is replaced the errors will clear

Car is in garage today to have new anti roll bar link fitted and for error codes to be cleared
Garage have called and said error code recorded from brake light switch, hopefully they will clear it and with new switch I fitted the error will not return.
second call to say there is a hard fault with the Yaw sensor under the dash - they are checking the sensor and associated wiring to see what the fault is MY05 Discovery 3 G4 LRG4C-14 Stage 3 & 4 Bolivia Team Fleet 49

Garage just called and said wiring to yaw sensor is ok
replaced yaw sensor and all error codes have cleared ok
there was a warning from the system that the air suspension had low pressure, however after replacing the yaw sensor and clearing all codes, that hasn't returned either
maybe with the car keep dropping to low access height it was affecting the suspension sensors ?
bill won't be cheap - £250 for the yaw sensor
