Quote:Copy screen is different mate, the black border is larger and viewable from the inside, elements are noticable and more spaced out, the element connections either side of the screen are in view as for some reason the piller trim does'nt cover the gold strips.
if that's the case then mines OEM as i cannot see connectors and the elements are actually LESS visable then the original..
i'll have another looksy in daylight to be sure it's not oem...

Neil,
It's more likely to be the poor quality of the fitting work than the quality of the screen although there may be a difference. I've had 2 new screens fitted in the past, not to the D3 I might add, and both were horrendous. Rushed jobs, wrong fittings, old fittings re-used and fitters with little or no competence...Autoglass and RAC. Beware of the workmanship.. Regards, Trev.

I insisted on an OEM screen when arguing with my insurance (Privilege) and they finally agreed. Autoglass promised they would fit LR original - and the next day when I got home to see it, they'd put in a very poor copy.
As MacLeod says:
thick black border
thicker heating elements
prominent yellow ribbon connectors visible from outside on each side
"A" pillar trim stuck on with black mastic (because he broke all the clips)
about 1/4 of the heating elements don't work!
Autoglass still tried to claim it was an original LR screen and then changed and said it was the same as...
As far as I'm concerned they're just a bunch of lying incompetent t**ts
(that's the Basingstoke branch anyway)
P.S. I believe Privilege and Direct Line are the same company - so be careful 2005 D3 HSE

I had a Pilkington replaced by RAC windscreens over a year ago
It's been fine and has no nasty bits showing or a big black border
Neil - do you HAVE to use Autoglass? I had a choice

Had AG replace mine 2 weeks ago, have to say inside it looks fine and I also would say the elements are finer. Testing over the last week shows allt he sensors and elements are working fine.
But I will go and check the a pillar trim in the morning.....
Also with Admiral it was only a £70 excess Craig

hmm, reading this is very disappointing as I need a new screed and insure with Direct Line. Does anyone know off hand if they give a choice of approved companies? This will be my first new screen on the D3, but I used to get through them at a rate on my D2 and had a few bad experiences with Autoglass. They (Guildford branch)broke one putting it in (later told me it is a 2 man job, but they sent one as they had on a couple of other occasions), then I had to wait 2 days with huge cracks for the glue to set before they could take it out. On another occasion the trim came off on the motorway a couple of days after they (Reading Branch) had fitted a screen - on inspection it turned out they had used some sort of non-setting goo to stick the trim on instead of the proper fasteners. Guildford Autoglass are complete cowboys, cocked up the screen on my first D3, they ended up paying my excess and paying for new roof trims after the of a fitter decided he should trim them back. Then the screen leaked, got the Bracknell branch to remedy the problem in the end, they seemed to know what they were doing and had a similar opinion of the Guildford branch as I do The End

FACT:
Autoglass know more about glass & fitting than your LR Dealer.
Your LR dealer knows more about Land Rovers than Autoglass.
SOLUTION:
Get your Autoglass man to fit your new screen at your LR Dealer.
Get your LR Dealer to oversee all work done by Autoglass.
Might cost a little bit more, but:
That way you're not responsible, as you'll have comeback against Autoglass and/or your LR Dealer.
Certainly worked for me when I needed a new screen !!
I had mine done when it was in for service/repair ....
.... that way they didn't even charge me for overseeing.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

As far as I know Land Rover don't manufacture glass so it is almost certainly going to come from pilkington. With regards to Auto Glass and the comment about RAC - I thought they were the same company now?
For £900 difference I would take the autoglass route, as you say take plenty of photos etc. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Also with regards to the clips, they are about 60p each. I finally got my gaffa tape off the windscreen and got the correct clips for the trim last week. I can vouch for the fact that it makes a hell of a noise if it does come off! D3 HSE MY05 Auto
