Not sure what the stealer can see with their software and am surprised they just gave up.
I presume they can see the same as with the webasto software I have, which tells you almost everything you need to know about the webasto... (As you see on IanNP's pictures) Faultmate MSV2 MultiVehicle

It was 15.00 and I guess they wanted to go home... Anyhow I think they would advice me to change the whole FBH to be on the sure side.
Aftermarket service from Webasto (i.e. Hellanor) is non-excisting I found out. I am left to my own devices... bought me a diagnosis tool from ebay, cheap to start with and maybe helpful for others too. www.skienklinikk.no

I've been trying to get my FBH working but no luck.
Got the latest software - Thanks for the Link Ian, and as soon as I try and run the fuel pump, I get a fault and STFL and lockout 2.
Everything else seems to work ok. Fan runs, water pump runs, glow pump works (Resistance changes).
As soon as I try a normal run, it goes straight out on the STFL & fault.
I did see something about fuel pump being open/short circuited - but forgot to note it down And it's gone cold and I'm fed up.
I have seen others mention testing the fuel pump - or at least taking it off to blow the lines through - though the funny thing is, I can smell fuel - just a wiff, but definately there - so I guess a blockage is possible!
Oh and don't do what I did and set it to auto run and have the wrong com port selected (Or in my case completely missing according to the software, though existing in control panel!)
You get loads of can't use com port errors - only fix is to find the webasto setting in the registry and deselect the Auto flag. Then uninstall the comm driver and plug the USB lead back into re-install the software for the driver. Mark.

An update.
I realised late last night that I hadn't jumpered the fuel pump feed over from the heater to the plug
Tried again tonight and it fails on glow plug resistance not reaching defined level on startup - or similar.
So is it repairable? Mark.

Probably find the glow plug is 'gunged' up.
Purg the heater a few times (don't worry about the smoke it emits) and see if the readings for the glow plug start to change.
Ian ..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

http://www.mellorautoelectrical.co.uk/shop...s&sp=1
found this site, considering that this time last year when I was trying to fix the fbh on wifey's flander, these were like rocking horse plop!
I ended up buying a brand new fbh from a Rover breaker wiring was different but not hard to sort, also runs on a 30min remote activated controller
service kits are also available from the bay of E, units are dead easy to take apart, just be careful of the torx screws covering the circuit board, they are likely to shear..
I have some where a step by step guide with pics on have to dismantle a fbh, will look it out and post it...

A good how to.
This is the 'Thermo Top C' as used on the older TD5 etc.
The one used on the D3 is the newer 'Thermo Top V'.

Thanks Ian. I'll try and do that later - though the car is in need of a wash and have at least got to back wash the radiator and IC this morning Mark.

Right. It's completely now
Basically I had the thing on a 100% (well 227% on the software) and to give it a bit more umph ran the engine that showed over about 200W of power being pulled and then I noticed the resistance was going down, not up - then the 20A fuse blew and stopped communicating - replacing the fuse (After all obvious checks were made) and it still didn't want to talk.
Oh well, time to contact the local Webasto service place - which is in Tamworth I think. Mark.

Just tried using the webasto software with the blue VAG lead, and the FBH still shuts down after about 1 min.
The glowplug heats and the resistance goes up with it. When it starts to put fuel in, the glowplug stays on for a little while longer, then the pump runs up to full speed ( 4hz - 4.5hz ) I get the FD (red) light lit up for a few seconds, then the glowplug and the fuel pump switch off and it goes into flame detector cooling mode and starts to shut down. At no point does the the flame detector return less than 0.88 ohms and if anything starts to climb at the fuel pump pumps harder. Everything seems to be going in the right direction, then it just gives up. there is def a flame, as there is a little smoke and lots of heat coming from it.
Any ideas where to go from here.
I have fitted the nonreturn valve to the output of the fuel pump, but as I was out there for about 3 hours in 2degC cold, I'd had enough. Must have run about 30 burn cycles, in both parking and supplemental mode.
Can anyone definitively state whether the combustion chamber can be cleaned without draining the coolant?
