Just been looking at the xfforum.co.uk for the xf Jaguar. It has been having a similar problem with "reduced performance" and seems to be related to one or both of the turbos and sticking actuators - perhaps in cold weather. Looks like this problem has transferred to the D4 with the 3 litre diesel. For those having this problem it's definitely worth looking at the Jaguar site and letting your LR dealer know (if they already don't).
Have had "reduced performance " message a couple of times last few mornings, when cold, about 1/2 mile from home, cleared on vehicle restart but something obviuosly not right. Rang Dealers this morning to get it looked at hopefully today, but they can't look at it till next week !!!! Advised I ring Landrover Assist, get them to look at it, they will recover if need be and get me a replacement car. I explained that I thought it was the Turbo vane sticking when cold, LRA are well aware of problem !!! Is it time for a recall then ???
Anyway am waiting for LRA to turn up, hopefully get it sorted, snow is forecast, need my D4 to function properly, or at least a good replacement 4x4 till its fixed. Will let u know how I get on.

There seem to be a few issues with the 3.0 TD. Nof surprising on a first build, at least they are not blowing up. I am sure LR will sort them but that is why I wouldn't buy the first build of any vehicle.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Juliemc9, will be interested to see how you get on. I have a D4 on order for delivery here in Perth (Australia) on May 1 2010. It isn't being built until February, so hopefully they have this issue sorted by then. Still seems to be related to cold temperatures and the turbo(s) - the last 2 days here have been 40 degrees celcius so we may not have the same issue in Oz. Anyway, hang in there, I'm sure that you'll have it sorted and get to enjoy your new car soon, but do let us know of your progress. Land Rover Series IIA 1967

I may be wrong and anything is possibile but the TSB I saw yesterday at my dealers regarding this problem had a vin range to it.
This leads me to belive that the possibile actuator problem is sorted and getting done on the new cars at build time.
My dealers has a RRS with the same fault interminantly.
Pete

Well it is the fixed vane turbo actuator as suspected, so in getting sorted now, my replacement car from LRA courtesy of Enterprise is a Ford Mondeo !!!! No 4x4 s to be had, even tried dealers where Disco is, no joy. Hope not too much snow before get my Disco back.
Looks like it's something that's carried over from the Jaguar XF which has similar "problems". From the Jag website it looks like people are reporting the actuator as the fault and that it is being attended to. Good to know that it seems to be getting sorted out by LR as well and may have a VIN range to it, as Pete has pointed out.
Otherwise, can anyone tell me how they find the 3 litre D4 when working that is? I'm using it to tow a 2 tonne boat to the North West from Perth as well as outback trips (once some 18 inch rims become available). The rest of the time it will be my commute car to and from work.
My test drive was short, but I was impressed by the extra power and torque over the 2.7, plus the reviews that it got from the journos.

Spoke to dealers, can't get parts they need, on back order. they will be speaking to Land rover first thing on Monday to try and sort it. Still can't get a 4x4 from Enterprise and its snowing !!!! Happy New Year !! Do you think its worth a call to Land Rover customer service ??

I did, mine was with the dealer for 3 weeks (reduced performance AND gearbox error) - they couldnt influence Enterprise to supply a 4x4 but i am now waiting to hear what they are going to offer me for the inconvenience, I suggested 2 first services free ...... Steve

D4 - 3 Litre
I can vouch for the performance of the D4 3 litre diesel - it's light years ahead of the 2.7. Sadly, I only had it 2 weeks before the reduced performance warnings kicked in (see earlier in the thread). Enterprise found me an automatic diesel Freelander which also had some 'issues'; i've had the loan vehicle for close on 2 weeks now and I still don't have an estimate of when I'll get my car back beyond "sometime in the new year"
In their defence, the dealers has been truly excellent, but Land Rover clearly aren't helping them much; the dealer is still waiting for the actuators to come from Land Rover and doesn't even have an estimate for when the part will be available let alone delivered. Apparently there are about 5 other vehicles with related problems in the same dealer which doesn't paint a very pretty picture - also, the VIN number of my vehicle is outside the range previously mentioned and is newer, so clearly the bulletin doesn't cover all of the affected vehicles.
If this doesn't fix the problems, I'm getting very close to rejecting the vehicle as the fault is dangerous. My only concern is that I really like the D4 and there isn't anything else I want to buy on the market. Please Land Rover - fix the fault !!!!!!!!

Got the reduced performance message again after the dealer had supposedly fixed the fault. We live at the bottom of a large hill and the error only ever kicks in when we drive up the hill from cold - if the engine is warm it never happens - wonder how robustly LR have tested the fix.
Its a great car when working but is close to being rejected now .... Steve
