Changed pads but Warning still on dash |
|
Changed the rear pads as they were really warn. Have replaced the sensor, but the warning light is still on and the inforamtion panel still says 'check brake pads'.
Am i supposed to do anything else, like a bedding in procedure or anything, did do it the last time i changed them?
Have ordered a new pad sensor just in case.

what are the front pads like ?? do they need changing. try disconnecting the rear sensor then the front and see if the message goes away.
i have both my sensors disconnected and no adverse messages Duncan

If pads wear so that pad warning is activated then the pad warning sensor wire is cut by the rotation of the disc .... no electrical circuit means ...pad warning on... new sensor needed!!!

I believe the disc bridges out the wiring when worn so causes an input to the appropriate ECU. disconnection open ccts them removing the warning.

A 'worn' wear sensor will present an open circuit to the IP which it detects as worn pads and flashes up the warning message/bing (or was it bong).
Either way, it sounds like what you've been told......either the rear pads are also worn or you've damaged the sensor when installing the front pads.
The sensors are very brittle once they've been on the car a while, but new ones should take a knock or two without falling apart. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

PaulP wrote:A 'worn' wear sensor will present an open circuit you are correct and my initial finding wrong. the two sensors are wired in series and when either go open the amber dash light illuminates. so it could be a faulty damaged new sensor or the other pads are low or the brake fluid could be low.

Or the sensor could not be connected properly to the vehicle loom?

When I had the annoying bing or bong I simply cut the sensor off and joined the wires together. Bit of a bodge I know but I had silence in the cab on the way to get new parts In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Did exactly the same as AndrewS, when my cable snapped. Shorted the cable onto itself and annoying bong/bong went.
Check the loom as TFC has said.

At my last service the dealership "advised" me that my front pads were worn about 80% and had about 8000mls life left in them. Is there actually a specified depth/thickness measurement that can be checked ( on the rear as well as the front ) to allow changing just before the warning comes up and thus cuts out the need for replacing the sensor cable/s as well as the pads?

I believe that the sensor gets worn if the pads are down to about 3 to 4 mm.
So with checking the pads regulary you can prevent wearing through a sensor. Or buy them cheap at ebay.
You have to check your brake pads anyway as the sensors are only at one pad in the back and one in the front so only 2 out off the 8 brake pads.
The pads on one axle should wear more or less equal but if you car gets older you will see that's not always the case. Roel

Have same problem now.
Changed brake pads and sensors front and rear.
No 'bing' but still a yellow warning light and message.
Any ideas? Anything I have to get reset in ECU?
