Auto Gearbox Software Update
Dear All,
I remember reading on the forum that some members have had a software update that has cured a transmission clunk from the auto gear box. My car has the same fault. It has had a mega flush and the gearbox reset done but still the clunk remains. I have called Hartwell's in Oxford to ask for a price but they need to know what the actual software update was as there are apparently so many of them. Does anyone know which actual software update cures the clunk problem???
Many thanks !!!

ISTR it was a Gearbox software update just to a newer version. On the very old versions there was a specific update, but I think yours is newer than that first update. I can do this with your other bits when you're ready? (can do Saturday PM if that's any use?) Bodsys Brake Bible
My 2005 V8 is sometimes slow engaging first when slowing for a junction and then pulling away. Does the software update fix that?
If so, I'd be interested in getting mine done (sorry for the thread hijack)
I'm just outside Grantham (Lincs)

So does the latest software update have all the previous update incorporated or are they all separate files? The bloke at Hartwells said that there are quite a few and the updates can take from a few minutes to three hours!! Bodsy, are you sure that what you are offering is an actual update and not just the reset of the gearbox memory for the drivers driving style? If it is an update what do they do as I was told that each update is to address a particular problem??
I don't know where Hartwell's got there information from but only one software update can take up to 3 hours and that the SNOTM the gearbox software update takes about 20 mins to do, sometimes with this update you need to recalibrate the clutch as well another 15 mins, but not 3 hours.
The update process with the FM for software upgrading is not the same as a reset, so what Bodsy has told you will be correct.

There are two elements, one is the Reset of the gearbox (which you have had), the other is a full software re-flash. If there are later software versions available for the ECU (in this case Gearbox) I would use the latest version.
I can't tell if there are later versions for your gearbox until connected.
I'll upload a pic showing what one with a newer version available. Bodsys Brake Bible

Slowjohn, yes, that would tie up nicely with another update not far from you. Will PM with more info.
Here is an example of a gearbox module that has both a Successor software update available as well as a predecessor file (look towards the top of the image)
As Flack/Geoff have said, the SNOTM takes 1-1/2 hours and the gearbox is around 20 minutes.
