the GTR site is not kosher ? Gosh, I hope the new owners manuals on the site are correct
Reading the service manual on the GTR site, the FHB is activated and disabled by the Automatic Temperature Control Module.
It appears that the system is controlled by messages from the med speed CAN bus from the ATCM. that contain the heating mode. But this only works when the CAN bus is live, and there are several events that will stop the unit from activating (a fault, a crash, low fuel, low voltage).
So maybe the radio keeps the med CAN bus active and so the timer functions ?
who knows !
The radio radio power management system appears to have a number of states, and one that we might try to keep the radio 'on' is to unlock the doors !. Not good for security, but it appears that when you remove the key from teh ignition, a shutdown delay starts after which the radio goes to sleep and one trigger for waking it up is when the doors unlock. This reminds me of Nigelpugh's early comments that he left the car open all night the first time he used the FHB.
The M CAN bus does appear to have a sleep mode, and it appears that the radio will wake up if there is M CAN bus activity.
The clock in the radio unit is used by other systems and might not be displayed after a period of 20 minutes following key-out and doors locked(can some one check this - my HSE is still being fixed).

No, I meant the GTR ones - not the round-the-back versions.
I agree with you - the CAN signalling is probably the blockage. I'll look again, as I thought the CAN was always powered up.

Join the club... all I get is this and no setting menu.
Interesting as we seem to be the only two on the forum that don't.

Simon, the info I have gained recently is that if your car was a recently built model or around Feb 05 onwards it would have all the software. But I think yours was earlier and this is where LR may have gone wrong again. Some where installed with all the software and some not. The ones without were correct, i.e. yours and the others like mine and many more, wrong. This is why LR are threatening to take away certain bits. But as Ecosse says, if we have purchased the goods and they are advertised (which they were and still are) we should have them and in working condition. My problem is that I cannot substantiate my info yet.

Yeah I was told that I would never have it by LR before I went away. They are looking into why my car is so damn hard at communicating with the dealers systems and will see if they can set the drive away locking for me.
Off to Eastnor Monday afternoon for a play on the course there with LR.

Eastnor, great enjoy. Do you know who your instructor is yet? Ask for Martin Gregory if he is back from Spain with the the launch of the RR Sport. Used to be of my lads, well until he deserted me for a cushy life with LR.

BN,
Will ask... and enjoy the afternoon.
Tesside,
I completely agree ! My Audi had this feature and the DISCO3 costs a tad more and it does not. In the manual it states it does...

You don't need an expensive car to get security locks! Our 18k Mini has it.

Teessidelad,
They say it should not have it but some cars do. Also you need the memory seat module (seems this is fitted regardless of electric seats) in order for it to work at all.
If this is not present then the car will never have it. LR say that the locking can be enabled by the dealers systems but they are having trouble 'talking' to my car.

simon the settings menu is not available on the s model if an owner with an s model says that it is on theres personalisation has been switched on by mistake, you can take the car to the dealer and ask them to switch the speed locking function on using WDS in the modify section setting menu should be switched on for se and hse models upto around 327000 vin and on all models after that providing a HIGH LINE instument pack is fitted (message center between the speedo and rev counter) and steering wheel switches hope this helps
