Received my handheld unit and TT mapping this week through Baben. The handheld unit is used to download std mapping and to upload TT maps. The result is that one can change your mapping at will, like when going in for sevice
The D3 felt much stronger with the new map,so I did a test to confirm.I measured acceleration over a piece of road(slight uphill).
Results:
Std 36sec @ 138km/h no smoke
Econ TT 35 sec @ 143 km/h some smoke
Power TT 34.5 sec @ 145 km/h more smoke
The car has a very nice urge when overtaking, which is what I wanted
It is difficult to comment on turbo lag,as I haven't used the car enough in traffic to notice any difference.
I am currently using the econ map.
Next I will tackle the EGR's to improve turbo lag
I looked at both BAS and TT and choose TT because of Baben's service. He is just a phonecall away
Thanks Anthony
does it have any effect on fuel economy?

Hi,
It is difficult to say,my feeling is that it is more economical under the same conditions. It is not heavier if driven the same way as the Std map,but that is not easy You are most likely to use the extra power and torque Big Country RR,NL Split Charge,FR Sump Guard,TP Monitor,BAS map

Doing a trip from Tzaneen/Pta/Tzaneen I will average 9.0km/l @ 128 km/u on speedcontrol.I have General Grabber AT2 tyres.I have managed 10km/l with careful driving These are actual tank averages,not the optimistic readouts :lol:My car is an auto. D4 3.0 TDV6 and RRS/FFRR 4.4 TDV8 remaps |
|
I am considering buying the kit to allow remapping of the D4 3.0 TDV6 - who would be interested in an introductory deal?

About 24000km's.I am very satisfied with the way they drive .Slightly more noise than the Good Years. The only problem I have is with the sidewalls .I have lost two tyres to sidewall damage by rocks and one with a puncture on Namibia gravel roads.General roadholding is good. They have been replaced overseas, and as our tyres are imported,it is just a matter of time here. I have the same Grabbers,TT'd by Baben and my wife generally drives the D3 in only stop start traffic, she averages about 8 to 8,5 km/l
Last week I used the D3 on the normal traffic between Pretoria and the East Rand, 50/50 mix of town/highway and I manged 9,5 km/l, I drive as fast as the traffic allows 2007 TDV6 SE auto (ex Write off)
2013 D4 SDV6 SE auto

thanks
I actually need to do the math myself.. At the moment I only check the optimistic onboard value to check if there is a big chnage (usually sign of problem...)

Not heard of it being done without fitting ARB front and kaymar rear bumpers.
I use an airjack, it's big and bulky but it does wonders for recovery as well
Have a search maybe?

Thank you so much for your help today!!! |
|
Baben, thank you for the help today!
Your response was quick, I am glad to say that the neg. terminal on the battery was loose!!!
I took delivery of the Landy on friday and for some reason they did not tighten the battery terminal!
Anyway thanks to your help it got fixed in no time, cleaned the terminals and secured tight.
All seems to be ok for now, hopefully no sensitive electronics got damaged with the loose conection....
It gave a lot of error messages and I got a moerse skrik, would not even start, lock or unlock the doors nothing!
Please do send me a quote to have my 20006 Disco 3 HSE remapped and everything! I need to do a couple of mods. Do you supply the MSV2 FAULT mate or is that something I need to order from the Black box guys myself...
I am new and would like to get up to sped of things, lots of lekker mods to do!!! I am excited!
Please feel free to email me on derek dot smit at abbott dot kom... Cheers. Your help was realy appreciated and sorry for the interuption to your meeting!!!
Love your work. Keep in touch.
Regards.
Derek

Hi Derek
Really no thanks necessary. I had exactly the same experience so when you related your symptoms I was 99% sure it would turn out to be a loose terminal.
I doubt there would be any permanent damage. Contrary to the belief of some of the old-school defender and troopie drivers, the electronics in the D3/4 are quite robust. You may find a couple of faults come up next time you start her, but if so they should clear after a few cycles.
I will send you a PM with all the details of the remapping.
The Faultmate you can buy direct from the Blackbox-solutions.com website - just go to the online shop. Make sure you pay them to do the shipping/postage, it works out a lot cheaper that way.
Have a trawl around this site and you will see all that can be done with the faultmate
Regards
Anthony
