Hmmmmm besides Anthony's remap , you can also look at blocking off your EGR's (I think it's still doable on a 2008 - Discoeast can help here ) and a freeflow and also a performance filter like an ITG or a K & N ( but for on road use only)
Having said all that though , start with the remap and see if you still think you need to do more - but I doubt it , and it is the least invasive .

Hi Baben and everybody else
As you will notice, my problem is not unique, but I am looking for a relatively reliable solution, and you seem to be about the most knowledgable person in this space.
Background
I drive a 2005 D3 TDV6 SE. Apart from using it around town, I also use it regularly for trips into remote cross border areas. I mostly travel alone (single vehicle). I do know that this is breaking a basic rule of 4x4'ing, but due to the nature of my trips, this is often the only way to go. I love my Disco, but I need to know that it will not leave me stranded due to an electrical problem.
Just about every electrical component that fails has an electronic consequence to another set of components that are not actually broken, but gets de-activated due to the fault code in the system. This then renders the car unusable, which is not desired when stuck in a remote area. Loose or blown brake lamps for example!! Another example is when I've had the rear diff-lock actuator fail causing the car to go into limp mode leaving the suspension on the bump stops. This on top of a mountain requiring ground clearance to get down - not great. I have since figured out a work around to override the sagging suspension, so 1 down.
Similarly I need to find overrides for 2 other main components that I believe can render the car unusable:
1 Immobiliser
2 Gearbox
3 Are there any others
So, I am thinking of getting a Faultmate hoping that it:
- will tell me which component is failing
- I should then be able to either replace (if I have spare) or bypass this component
- Reset the fault codes so that the other components on the "bus" does not fail
In your experience,
- am I correct in my approach?
- will it address most of my needs?
- are there other similar products to do the same job?
- can I purchase such a device locally?
Any information will be appreciated. I can also call you to discuss if that is the more preferred option.
Best regards
Gerhard

Gerhard, your reasoning is exactly why I bought a faultmate years ago.
There are quite a few error code checkers available, but as far as I know, the faultmate is the only system in it's price bracket that does error reading, ccf editing, and software updates
You can buy direct from the Blackbox-solutions.com website. Pay them to do the forwarding, it's much cheaper that way.

hi Will, please pm or email me your mobile number, then we can get together. I will take my complete kit along, so can do remaps and faultmate work, but time will be tight, and I will only be able to operate from around CTICC early morning and late afternoon.
Those who want to see what I do to pay my taxes - come visit us at Africa.com - 4G Technology - from Tuesday to Thursday next week

Gerhard, two things I would add here, adjustable 50mm suspension lift rods
and a back up system to pump up the suspension if it were to drop down.
As for the EGR's, not that simple as in the past, but I think it can still be
done, will require a air flow bypass of the butterfly when closed. D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.
