Great Guide!
Thanks very much for your efforts, not sure I would have gotten it done without them!

Excellent instructions both here and on the Wiki page http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Rear_Door_Latch_Replacement. Just managed to replace the RH passenger latch after getting door open warnings, horn sounding when locking and alarm triggers.
Rear window unclipping was a piece of cake, there is only one clip and it's easy to pull up the window with one hand while unclipping with the other.
Hardest bit by some margin was the removal of the external door cable. The one thing I couldn't work out from any of the instructions was exactly how the clip needed to be manipulated to get it off. The attached photo shows the direction that the plastic tabs need bending. (Image with latch removed).
So, you need to move all four outwards! In reality this is impossible so I hooked a bent screwdriver around the back of the cable clip (the black cylindrical plastic bit just above the clip) and pulled hard while jiggling one of the clips (with the green arrow). It came out, amazingly in one piece.
Refitting was a doddle, I managed to get my hand round the back of the latch (from inside the door) so my fingers curled around allowing me to pull the cable back into it's clip.

Hi, new ish to forum, just replaced n/s front and rear door latches. Rear door would open on button with pulling door handle at same time, front door lock shut, no way of opening at all, but worked it out in the end, what a faff, this site is brill and thanks for detailed explanation😀😀😀, helped loads. The front door card will come off with door closed, had to remove pas seat to do this, when finally getting to latch remove torx screw for small plastic cover on latch, then with use of long nose right angle pliers, go into the lock mechanism from the bottom cable housing, you need to touch a white plastic part of mechanism and softly twist pliers clock wise, hallelujah the door opens, then new latch can be fitted, this job is done blind but can be done on new latch first, In order to know what needs to happen

I found i much easier to remove the door handle completely when do either the front or rear door locks its actually really simple and then you have a lot more space to work in - theres a hidden screw with a torx head behind a sticker cover on the front door

Great explanation and pictures
Just swapped drivers door lock mechanism (as per instructions) - Thanks a lot.
Prices seem to have gone up to £75 (on e-bay) but did not realise this was for a copy product (no LR markings). Mine came with the white plastic latch (to stop the door being locked when open) but I could not get this to work properly. After fitting it 3 times I gave up and broke the white plastic latch off - now works fine!
As with others I did not need to remove the window mechanism (just moved to the side) and did not need to remove outer handle (just undid the latch (3 screws) so I could see in through the hole and remove the cable.Previous: Range Rover V8 EFi - 87 plate,

Hi Andy, is this on the driver's door? I thought the emergency key lock was only on the passenger side?
EDIT: Doesn't matter. I worked out how to get it off the drivers door, but despite removing the screws I still couldn't figure out how to get the door handle mechanism off inside the door so I gave up and went down the other route.

So, she's playing up for me again. On this occasion the F/N/S door is locked shut with absolutely no way of me getting it open. I've tried locking/ unlocking with the buttons on the key, dashboard and by putting the key into the actual lock in the door itself - all to no avail.
I've pulled off the interior door handle which has revealed the metal wire and I've been pulling on this like crazy, again to no avail.
Has anyone any ideas
EDIT: So, after crying all over her for a while she has decided to open Can anyone recommend where to get a replacement from, they seem to range from £75 - £95. Has anyone bought one recently and can recommend anyone?

Hi, the only one I would use for the job as to be LR oem, you don't want to be doing the job again when a cheaper variety fails a cup of years down the line, if you can I would recommend not locking the car until you can do the job now the door is open, just to make job easier for you!

All sorted !!!!
I needed to invert the clip ! DOH !!
Hi all and a Merry Christmas,
So, the internal handle cable has detached itself from the locking mechanism and I cant see how to keep it in it's place other then pushing the small pin into it's hole but then there's nothing to keep it there. The lock and everything works and it all works from the outside until I put it back together again and the pin falls out.
Any ideas anyone - please
Thanks

Door latch in sorted
Satisfied: followed Iain G's superb instructions at the front of this thread and had a new drivers side door latch fitted in an hour, and no screws left over! Thanks to everyone who has posted their advice

Just done my O/S front actuator this morning and managed to get it out and new one in within an hour - then came the hiccup
Interior handle cable that came on the new unit would not fit correctly in the interior door handle.
Out it all came again to transplant the old units cable onto the new unit.
If you new unit comes with cables already attached make sure you check the fit your existing handles before you install the unit.
Old one on the left.
