New lower wishbones the easy cheap way to change lower ....
The link below is to a thread I started when I needed new lower ball joints.
I had my dealer instead install complete lower A arms on both sides. As far as I was concerned it was faster, easier, perhaps cheaper, plus I got the new updated ball joints plus alot of new fresh bushings and the like. There is also a story that says the A arms are only good for two sets of ball joints and then the holes are stretched, hence new A arms are needed anyway.
This is a link to a thread on disco3 from awhile back when the new ball joint design was just being introduced.

Bingo stingo. Nice mallet!
Me mate came round and had it off in under a minute! He did bring a splitter with him the size of Jaws erm.... jaw!
Once the hub was off he popped the whole thing out easy using a few tricks of the trade, that I now have!!!
That's one side done anyway!!!

Couple of points on torques if re-fitting a front hub;
1. 4 x Hub bolts - 115nm
2. Hub centre nut - 230nm
Got this info from a Stratstone LR workshop.
Thanks to all the previous posts which helped me carry out a succesful pair of front hub replacements.

Had a go at this yesterday but got well and truely stuck trying to split the lower ball joint. I gave up and phoned my local specialist who offered to put 2x genuine wishbones on and track all four wheels for £709...which is okay for what it is but too much for me to spend right now.
The joints are very bad and so I'm looking at buying a HGV joint splitter - anyone bought one for less than £100 which has worked well in this area?

Started on my front wishbones last night and the HGV hydraulic ball joint separator worked very well (I used the one shown below - any smaller and I don't think it would fit - you need 70mm jaws) - I reckon it needed the 12 tons of pressure - went with a bang on both sides! Now stuck on the rear bolts on both sides, I'll be buying a reciprocal saw and a few blades today...
I'm not used to working with modern cars which are rusty, my 1980's Audi had no rust anywhere. My 1962 Lagonda on the other hand has rust everywhere, but that's to be expected.

Thanks Mikey Great post, however no amount of hammering on ball joint would make it move. In the end resorted to old faithful SP 3 ton puller and that pushed it out. Otherside tomorrow I think now.

I didn't use a ball joint splitter. I just hit the steering knuckle a couple of times with a lump hammer & the ball joint popped out. The new ball joint just pushed into place by hand, but you could use an old socket or similar if necessary.
