Itrip

Try and get the direct input to aux, now we know where (wires) are located. I got an itrip in the States (fm transmitter) ...sound was rubbish, waste of time and money. The fm direct connection into the antenna input is not bad, but the aux input is the best. 8)

Where is the volume controlled from if you do the above modification? Has anyone looked at the option of butchering an I Pod cable that you get in the kits to connect an I Pod to a standard aftermarket head unit? This would have the power and audio wires which could all be hard wired if the head unit controls the volume.

volume

Set the volme on your ipod to 70-80% with sound check on, then use the headunit to control volume, remember headunit volume control increases to (35) ignition on and (25) when not! ...sound is impressive. Very Happy

Tony,

If the audio output is taken off at the bottom connector I think its pre amp (as in pre IPOD amp) and therefore its not possible to adjust the volume. Its seems from what you say though that the aux connection is put through the head unit vouume and therefore the head unit amp. Anyone agree/ disagree?

"cotefarmboy" I want to thank you, for your information.
I followed your instructions, and my mp3 player works great.
The only difference was i could not get those connections out of the grey plug, i tried and I tried, in the end i cut thm off.
I connected the three wires with crimp connecters, the barrel type, made sure the mp3 player worked, put some insulation tape around the connections, put the trim back.
Job done.
Again thanks for your information.

I thought this was such a good idea I went ahead and did it!

Here's a couple of extra points for novices like me...

The Kickpanel has a couple of round lugs/retaining thingys beside and below where the bonnet opener is. Easier if you can pull the kick panel towards the seat a bit (say 2 cm) then towards the footwell. Bit of a Censored getting them back in too. If they fling out you need to reassemble them in to the holes on the body then do a complicated press/slide/push kinda move to get it back on.

How's that for technical?

Also, the middle block with the wires you need can be unhitched by twisting the top out and sliding it up an inch or 2.

I'm still working out how to feed the cable back to where I'm mounting the tomtom go 910 on the dash. Any tips appreciated.

fantastic tips, must give this a try at the weekend Smile

I'm guessing any standard stereo extension "jack to jack" cable can be used?

Any will do but avoid really cheap ones as you could get interference through, go for the best quality you can afford/justify.

I'm keen to pick up the aux and power connections provided at the back of the centre console - I only have the SE, but from what I understand, the wires are still there, just not terminated into connectors?

First question is though - how the heck do I get the fascia of the back of the centre console above/below or whereever the air vents there?

ideas?

cheers,

Simon
