Scotland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Hi,

I managed to install the 3.5mm jack socket, by only having to remove the H trim and the left-hand cigarette lighter panel screw.

I used a Maplin “FK03D” socket.

See photos in my gallery. Basically, I drilled for the socket from the good side of the panel. Then wedged the left hand side of the panel forward so I could get to what is behind the panel to open that up with a larger drill bit to take the barrel of the socket. Then, because the screw part of the socket is not long enough to go through the panel to take the nut, I carefully ground away part of the inner surface of the panel with a miniature drill kit sanding tool to reduce the thickness.

I think you will agree that I have a good result. No LR parts broken Smile ! The only part I had to buy was a clip for the H trim which pinged off somewhere inside the dashboard when I was removing it (cost a staggering £1.50 to get a replacement Shocked !).

Thanks very much to all, and in particular to CFB, Discowex, caverD3, and wiggs for your help and encouragement. Very Happy

Cheers,
Rob

Scotland 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

Hi,

My kids are now asking for a jack socket for the second row.

I can easily 't' off the cable I have installed, and I think tuck the cable underneath the centre console, but does anybody know of an easy way to remove the rear air con vents, cup holders, or tray that's there so that I can a fix a socket there like caverD3 did http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic7072.html WITHOUT removing the centre console? Do these things 'pop-out' so that I can pull the cable up inside and terminate at a socket?

Thanks for your help once again.

Rear air con vents are held in with a screw from the inside . You would have to remove the cubby box / fridge to get to it . The easiest way is remove gearstick .. pull upwards ( in P if auto ) pull off the center consul surround up ( from nearest ashtray first ) remove the 2 screws holding the cubby box / fridge then the 2 screws holding the cubby box arm rest ..the silver bits just pull off to reveal 2 x torx screws ..pull out cubby box / fridge ...you can then undo the screw on the back of the air con vents ..and when thats out you can pull the drinks holder right out aswell .

Sounds a big job ..but it will take you no more than 5 mins

Rear vent actually just pulls off. The whole lot comes in one piece.

Hi simoniz,

I connected to behind the kick panel. Couldn't get the connectors out of the connection block, so just cut-off the 3 wires and soldered on to the audio cable, as other people have said they did further up this thread.

Cheers,

How do I actually pull this off? My aim is to fit a socket where you did, but I don't want to take the whole of the centre console out. Can I actually avoid doing this?

Thanks,

Rob

The vents in the rear are in a surround. The whole surround is held by clips like the facia surround. They need a good tug. I stuffed mine up putting it back (gave it a thump without lining up the clips) snapped off one of the socket tabs. Embarassed
You can remove the cup holders that are under the vents but it is fiddly you need to push both tabs at the same time.
Drill a hole in the bottom corner of the space behind the vents but make sure you miss the centre cubby and don't interfere with the cup holder when it slides back in.

A thought Idea

Do you have he additional power socket & aux jack on th back of the console cus you could just extend to the inbuilt jack socket - if not installing one of these could be an easier solution th rippin the console apart, this part is easy to install and you et an additional 12 power socket Very Happy

Hi caverD3 and simoniz,

Just want to take the simplest route.

So it looks as though I just pull on the trim at the back of the centre console (bit like pulling up the H trim at the front). As long as I can reach the cable I have tucked under the console (may need to drill a hole to reach this), I should be in business.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers,

Rob

Tried to do this mod today, but i have different multiplugs than described here. There is no grey plug in the middle. Has anyone found multiplugs like me? The image of wires and plugs is at my gallery. My D3 is MY05 Europe LHD SE with base audio.
