Hi folks, greetings from Tokyo still. Will bung up some pics in a bit but the breaking news is we’re in for a Typhoon tonight, as advertised in the JR trains on our travels. Thumbs Up

Looking a bit wild and wooly out to sea before it comes in tonight.

It doesn’t seem to be a big thing at the mo, asking about it gets a bit of a shrug and a polite “ah yes, a typhoon is passing through tomorrow”. It looks like the warning for Tokyo area has downgraded it to a Tropical Storm though. We’re on the 30th floor so should be a good view and well clear of the tidal surge.

At least we won’t starve, lovely nibbles + champers in the lounge tonight.

And in emergency there’s always the Haribos in the minibar. Thumbs Up

Meanwhile, calm before the storm. Sunset over Mt Fuji overlooking Shinagawa Station.

OK, it wasn’t the highest scoring game in the world of baseball, at 0-0 it’s not going to get into the record books. We skipped the 10th, 11th and 12th (innings?) and got the trains back when they were empty enough to get a seat. And yes, much to my distress the lovely Japanese peeps get off their seats and offer them to me at times. Now I really feel my age. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Couple of pics of the game. The phrase “the crowd goes wild” didn’t really apply but there was cheering and clapping when players were dismissed, usually for doing not a lot.

Gratuitous pano. It’s a bit blurred on the scoreboard but it’s pretty much all 0s!

We’ve legging south, about 20mins from Tokyo to Yokohama. Fantastic view from the 26th floor right on the front.

Here the Nissan Maru docking with the help of a couple of tugs, and Japanese CG base behind.

And possibly one of strangest museums of our travelling history.

Very James Bond mothership arrangement!

Loving the signage!

Of course the N Koreans will say it’s an innocent fishing vessel, that happens to be armed to the teeth and have an assault craft in the stern, and a midget sub. Kim Il Scary would be proud. Thumbs Up

PS Nissan Maru docked with USNS Effective (sub surveillance ship) behind.

PPS and the typhoon was a bit of a damp squib, literally. It fizzled out before it hit shore and all we had was a bit of heavy rain. Sad

These dudes have just shown their form. In a prev life I would have been the one in the middle between the 2 with arms up. The champ we think. At least they make me feel slim again! Thumbs Up

Just waiting on that lot start, that’s the “senior” tournament.

PS There is one cheeky looking sumo.

And loved this statue outside the JR station. Been a bit rubbed by passers by, a la Buddha statues!

Great day at the sumo. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Deffo got more and more action packed as we hit the seniors level. Here’s 3 vids that give a feel for it.

Getting back to Yokohama was a bit of fun in the Tokyo rush hour. By tech, ninja train hopping skills and plain blind luck we ended up on 2 local trains and an express, all getting a seat!! Deffo travel gods were with us. Thumbs Up

Got a few pics from travels around Yokohama, will bung them up in a bit.

Some pics from last couple of days in and around Yokohama. It’s nice having a fantastic view out over the harbour, lots to watch with our feet up and cup of coffee/tea on the go.

Another USNS ship, this time the Guam. Think high speed ferry meant for Hawaii, ferry Co went bust and long story shortened it ended up, to quote Village Peeps, in the Navy.

And another Nippon Maru, did a double take on the name but it’s the same as the one tied up in front of our hotel. S’pose if you end up as a permanent memorial then your name is fair game.

The port museum has a couple of addictive simulators.

Firstly pick up the container and put it on the truck. Sorry for the sweaty t-shirt but it wasn’t that hot (31c) but super humid!

And pilot a boat from one part of the harbour to the other. Great fun if the wind is dialled up to max and weather switched to full on hoolie. A lot harder than it looks.

And the Sankeien Park. Lovely peaceful park a short bus ride away.

Bit of a jolly yesterday to Chinatown.

Pretty busy.

And SWEEEEEEEEEEET panda cakes.

And finally the sail ships as we walked back to hotel from Chinatown. A walk that should have been a good bit shorter than it was, my navigational/directional spider senses deserted me. Big Cry Big Cry

Good to be back in hotel room, slobbing it in front of TV with sore feet. Thumbs Up

And greetings from Hamamatsu, a bit to the S & W of Yokohama. Will do some general pics after scoff but here’s a few for aviation fans from the museum at the local JSDF (AF division) base.

Lots of T-4s doing circuits, touch & gos and t/offs & landings.

And T400s doing same.

Our own little air show c/o this Black Hawk.

And a 767 AWACS seen from inside the museum.

Re inside , it’s a really good little museum and total lack of Japanese wasn’t an issue. Also managed to shoot down 4 x F-15s in a flight sim, and crash 3 times. Thumbs Up

In a T-4 as seen above.

And a T2

And the AWACS as seen from hotel 10 minutes ago. Obviously been out, done it’s deeds and back for tea and noodles, Japanese equiv of tea and medals. Thumbs Up

PS And no getting away from Sumo, it’s on the TV as I type. Thumbs Up

Now that’s an image you don’t to have in your mind over Cornflakes! Laughing

T’is indeed a Zero. It crashed on Guam and was “returned” to Japan in 1968 (ISTR). Was a total wreck but the JSDF peeps did a good restoration job.

There were a few cockpits you can sit in with a volunteer looking after you, the T2 (sim plus real a/c) & T4 which I even fitted in!

Unfortunately the stairs up to the F-4 cockpit were closed off. Phantom was deffo the jewel in the crown for me. Thumbs Up

And all in boooooooootiful 34c heat and wall to wall(ish) blue. Thumbs Up
