Lovely choc fondant like cake each for dinner while slobbing in hotel, it’s 28c here and bit knackered from last few days so lazy afternoon called for. And nice half bottle of Champers that was a welcome gift from the hotel. Fun getting it cold in the room’s fridge and it’s one of those that if you take an item out you have bought it. That and getting it past the Greek yoghurt and milk of ours already in there!! Yes, could have gotten a bucket of ice delivered to the room, but not at €7!!

Lots and lots and lots!!
Bye bye France, and bye bye French bread with breakie!
I just thought "you know what, I'll catch up on Del's travels". I usually let your threads build up and then "binge read".
I could have timed that better. I just had a bowl of cornmeal porridge......
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Hmmmm, not sure they do porridge here. View from lunch spot. Note, no smoke on the water.

No hard rocks in that lake!
Yep, peeps guessed it, greetings from Switzerland. Train from Lyon to Geneva, then on to booooooootiful Swiss Railways to Montreux for lunch, as you do.

Mind you, the Swiss reputation for punctuality wasn’t much in evidence today!

And classic view from Montreal. Booooooooootiful day!

And said lunch. Really scrummy and healthy, and not too expensive for here considering it was right on the water.

Then back on to the train to Lausanne (hotels were a lot cheaper here) and we’ll get the boat back along the lake tomorrow.

Presume that 1st picture of lunch is something you picked from beside the lake

Not sure if SWMBO would agree to foraging.
A few pics from down by the lake this evening, absolutely lovely weather for watching the world go by.

No pic of the mandatory ice cream though.
And it’s good being out of France from a public tpt point of view, no more masks needed on trains, buses, metro, etc. I don’t mind masks too much but it gets a bit wearing for hours at a time on the trains.

It’s been a day of buses, metro, boats and trains (normal and cogged) to paraphrase Plane, Trains and Automobiles.
No pics of the first 2 types but got this old steamer from Lausanne to the end of the lake. It’s a new mode of tpt for us as never travelled in/on a 1908 paddle steamer. Lovely little cruise along the lake, lovely weather and nice and calm. Something we’ve wanted to do for decades but never got round to it.

Then on to the trains. Nothing as fancy as this but pretty comfy, and almost on time!

Loved the reflections on this station’s windows.

Then onto the Gottard Matterhorn cogged train to head up the hills, though the Swiss call them mountains.

And to Zermatt. Fantastic weather, hoping tomorrow is the same but waiting to see what it will be before shelling out £325 on trains and cable cars up to the tops!
View from hotel room of the Matterhorn, then assorted views of the same hill.

And it’s Groundhog Day up here.

Though a few shops has them stuffed!!

Reminds me of the old joke:
Shopkeeper, shopkeeper, was that marmot wild?
Wild? It was livid!!
Good nosh in a pub, I has the burger with chips.

And met one of the locals. He was really friendly, hardly took any squeaky noises to get him over. He was settling in big time but we had to head off.

Hopefully up to the tops tomorrow, brave pills on order as I’m not mad keen on heights and cable cars.

I'm vaguely disappointed there's no pic of you next to the Freddie Mercury memorial in Montreux. Thought that was obligatory!
Had a wonderful few days around Lac Leman based out of a suite in the Grand Hotel in Montreux a few years back. The town itself is so-so, but the surrounding area is amazing.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I didn’t know about the memorial but we had our packs so it was off the train, down to the lake, have lunch, back to the train and then back to Lausanne for hotel. Lausanne was a good departure point for the steamer and was well under half the price for the hotel. Plus unlimited free/included train travel with Interrail so made sense.
Fantastic morning up the tops, back down at 5k feet and lips no longer have a blue tinge. Lots of pics, will post later.

OK, the pics. Anyone with vertigo (like me usually) look away/go make a cuppa.
In the cable car with a load of crazy skiers and mountaineers. And yes, being a mountaineer automatically means you are crazy!
