Re hungry, dinner is in the room fridge. Nice bottle of rose for princely sum of €3.50! Along with a couple of salads.
Mrs DSL has just been checking strikes in Paris when we are there, nothing that will affect us. Hopefully will be able to get home OK on Friday. No changes on Eurotunnel to our train, or in general, for Friday, then got to battle across London (sweaty tube or packed bus). Then will be the fun bit, the last few miles from home.
Stel and I will be in Versailles Thursday lunch until Friday mid morning......
Meet you at the Eiffel Tower Thursday evening with a rolled up copy of the times under my arm? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I challenge anyone not to say that last sentence in a French accent!

It would certainly be fab for what we’ve done, ignoring the cost of parking, driving in Italy, no cars in Venice and the traffic jams we’ve passed crossing the alps last Friday.
It was a lovely car, not sure what the owner thought when this weird chap whipped out his iPhone and snapped a pic as he passed without even breaking stride.

We're going the other way. From Paris we're heading down to the Rhine at Basel, then down to Lake Geneva and on to the Alps.
But in all seriousness, we're contemplating grabbing a train in to Paris for dinner on Thursday evening as it's only 30 mins. from Versailles to the Eiffel Tower - not planning/booking anything, just going to see what takes our fancy so if you're even vaguely in the vicinity and it's doesn't cramp your plans it would be amusing to grab 30 minutes and some comedy photos.

Sounds like a great trip, gratuitous pic of the steamer on Lake Geneva, one of the highlights of our trip.

PS U going by train, car or plane? If by train then once you get to Switzerland the trains are fab. Not quite with the same 100% punctuality of the Italian train but reasonably close. Assuming you’re travelling 1st, 2nd is a bit of a bun fight for space on busy trains.
In the car this time - planning a grand rail tour for 2024
One from a previous trip - Montreux 2013

Can’t give you any advice re car tour except they usually drive on the wrong side of the road.
We were planning a round France trip in Skippy (minimal border crossings and maximum flexibility) but took a brave pill in Jan and bought the Interrail passes, way before we could have done any of what we’ve been able to do. The only Da Bug related thing we’ve had to do, apart from mask wearing, was showing our NHS vacc cert on entering “France” in St Pancras.
We flew in to GVA in March and took the train into central Geneva for a wander before picking up the hire car. At GVA we had all the covid paperwork ready and the border police glanced at it and said "oh, a covid pass. How very last year" and just waved us in
Masks were still obligataire on the trains though.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Only place we need masks now on public tpt is Italy & Germany, but the number of peeps actually wearing them in Germany is lower every day. When we started France and Austria needed them, now no longer apart from in Vienna, much to their annoyance. No masks needed in Czechia, Slovenia or Switzerland. Yesterday we were on a French train in Germany, nobody, and I mean nobody, was masked up. Our tram from Kehl to near our hotel in Strasbourg started in Germany, again nobody had a mask on for the 200m to the border. On a TGV tomorrow to Paris, no masks needed. We both carry our FFP2 in our pockets if we feel it’s needed, and not the same mask for the whole trip. Plus mine has a bit of red tape so I know which is mine, SWMBO doesn’t want to accidentally wear my mingy mask!
