Is think that the D5 with the new I6 engine will be a step change. Especially if they put the higher output version in it.

Crumbs the Kodiaq is cost effective. Looks good but could I live with a 1.5 TSI.
I went for the 2.0 Tdi with the DSG box and it’s a fab combo. Gear changes are sooooooper smooth and it’s plenty punchy enough for my needs, plus I get high 50s mpg where I’d be lucky to get low 30s in my D3 or D4.

What I find with odd with the D5 is how the basic model looks so ‘Basic’
Whilst the models with a bit of bling look quite 8)
I’ve not investigated enough to see what exactly the differences are, but they do certainly make a difference.
It’s almost like looking at the differences between a D3 and D4. It’s amazing what can be achieved with a few tweaks.Discovery 4 HSE

I agree...I think the biggest difference is the choice of wheels... the basic models have the smaller 18? Inch wheels which always make the car look ‘undertyred’......the small wheels make the car look wrong...yet those fitted with the 20+ sized wheels look great apart from the .... 8)
I think it’s the visual size of the body....I think that with a few vehicles...the Maserati 3200 and even the quattroporte is the same... it looks wrong

Agreed re it looking wrong. It’s not just the , it’s the whole package. I think the front is worse than the back.
At least I’m being polite, SWMBO describes it as “gopping”, a word she’s never uttered before.
PS Begs the question, how can LR get some models so right (last 2 FFRRs, RRS2 & New Deafner) and another so wrong?

Give the Defender the option of bigger boot and a proper tailgate and it’d be quite something 👍
The Defender has never had a split tailgate, why would they give it one now?
You Disco boys and your split tailgate. It's an obsession.
Not so much an “obsession”, as one of those high standards that some of us refuse to compromise on 👍2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

We have the combination in our VW T5 Cali. It suffers a little bit from eating its own EGR cooler but the problem is less the higher the cooler designation. Engine is certainly punchy making the old D240 in the Defender feel flat.
Well I showed the Wife the Kodiak this morning and she hated the looks. Was 50 / 50 on the Enyaq but quite rightly pointed out that the boot wasn't as big as the Discovery.

What difference does it make if it was fitted to a Series, or Defender? For some of us, a side mounted tailgate is an utterly hopeless anachronism.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Why does a Skoda have a heated rear window? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I looked at so many cars when deciding to replace my D4. Not one member of my family liked the D5. Its a lovely drive but compromised in too many areas and the family hated how it wallowed. The closest replacement for me was the Defender, although I was unsure about the side opening rear door, but I would have bought one if the dealer order software hadn't failed
Anyway, I reevaluated what I needed and decided a LR with all its capability was OTT and I was trying to be a bit more environmentally friendly. I still need a big car for the family and our lifestyle but not one that can climb mountains and wade rivers. So I bought an XC90. Its close to the D4 in practicality, is really well packaged, beautifully built and super comfortable. For the few times I go off road it will be enough.
Interestingly I've not missed my D4 at all, lovely car that it was. Very few on here need or will ever use the capabilities of a LR. I used to when I had the construction business but I haven't for many years. How many on here regularly use the terrain response, low ratio or tow 3.5t? Very few I suspect and that was my thinking why I wanted a change.D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

I’ve sat on numerous Series/Defender drop down tailgates. They’d have been fixed cab or open roof versions i suppose.
The ones with a hard top not canvas) canopy were effectively a split tailgate. Not exactly the same as a D3/4 but serve the same purpose. The too section providing shelter from the rain or sun.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
