Cooper Weathermaster Tyres

Fitted 4 new Cooper Weathermaster tyres 2k ago.

I went for the oversize 255 x55 x 20, but kept the spare as a Pirrelli Scorpion (same size) as they are a directional tyre.

Usually fit all terrians, first time with a real winter tyre.

So far:

Very quiet, no more noise than Scorpions and no impact on mpg.
Ride smoother and poss a tad quieter, which I put down to the larger side wall in this size.

No real off road yet, but in a couple of little tracks I have done no problems.

In wet weather have handled well and caused no issues.

Some snowy conditions back in early December saw no problems at all, but not really that testing.

However yesterday, out all day in the snow and was very impressed all round with the performance.
They just stuck and gripped in all the varying conditions including some drifting on 1:10 hills Did not use any of the off road modes and even when trying hard to provoke a spin or slip they just stuck and powered on through.

Even found the braking far superior to anything experienced with All-terrians in similar conditions, with plenty of feedback and grip.

The only thing I can really moan about is they do seem to throw an lot more mud and crap up the side of the car, otherwise feel monies well spent Thumbs Up

I have them on one of my Discoveries and I think they work great in snow/ice and normal conditions and look good too which always helps. Thumbs Up

I run them on mine. Excellent tyre in the winter, decent in the summer, but get a bit "vague" above 25 degrees or so

This is the second winter on my WeatherMasters (Pirelli in summer) very pleased with them in all conditions and so far done about 8/9k and still showing just over 8mm left.

Any thoughts on their off-road ability for 2 weeks in the Pyrenees in June?

Sorry to double check but are the 55 sidewalls ok on the 20’s, no rubbing?
I’m sure some of you will roll your eyes but I’ve never fitted anything by the 50 profile Scorpions.

My guess is that due to the chunky tyre blocks and rugged shoulders they should work quite well although no actual experience with mine off road other than grassy tracks.

Why are you fitting the 55 profile when they are available in 255/50x20 the correct size which makes it the same rolling circumference as the standard spare.

I assume your talking to Lespes re the 55 profile. I too am considering the 55 profile as 1. THey are cheaper (less demand) 2. More sidewall as on 20" sidewall is limited - + 1.25cm.

The downside is the speedo is slightly out but heh ho. Smile

But the upside is the speedo is more accurate Thumbs Up

I'll be putting 55's on mine when the time for replacement comes Thumbs Up
