Ok I can go along with that but what do you use for a spare? Buy five? Only asking as I'm thinking of putting an AT tyre on for next summers adventures and not much choice - if any - in the 50 profile so will have to go 255/55x20. Possibly GG AT3Discovery 4 HSE 2010

In short, yes.
My summer wheels are 275/45R21, winters are 255/55R20
Both have the same rolling circumference, so a worn 255/55 will become a spare, with 4x new tyres on the rims My D3 Build Thread

Would the slight difference in circumference between 255/50 (spare) and 255/55 effect the differential/gearing on a short trip to a garage etc?

Just bought a set of 255/55 R20 Cooper Weathermasters. My other D3 has the 255/50 R20 Weathermaters so I will be able to make a direct comparison.
PS: Not sure what tread depth they start on (will post when I get the new set) but my year old 255/50 R20 set are now 9mm even across the rears and 8mm even across the fronts!
UPDATE: The tread starts at 9.525mm (USA made at 12/32 of an inch) so just .525mm of wear in a year on the rears.

I have the weathermaster oversize 55 size in 20's
Def look better and ride is comparable to 19 standard tyres.
Speedo still reading slightly over but nearer to true.
As for fifth tyre have a Pirrelli scorpion fitted same size, as are some threads on here that state using smaller sized wheel in emergency = slightly scarey stuff.
Also Pirrelli is a none directional tyre unlike the weathermasters so can fit to any wheel if the worst happens.
The 55 size is a tight fit in the spare compartment and had to bend the heat protectors out a bit to get it to fit in.
As for fitting 55 size in first place, found 1 brand new weathermaster on ebay for a stupid price, then a free pirrelli on this site, so just left 3 to buy at normal price. Also that bit more tyre wall depth just puts alloy above most kerb heights D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

I have now fitted my 255/55 r20 Cooper Weathermaster winter tyres. I think they look great and do not rub other than on absolute full lock at very low speed when there is a very slight rub. I can compare them to the 255/50 r20 size as I have had them for a year on my other Black Discovery. I prefer the 255/55.

lLespes are your 255/55 tyres Cooper Weathermasters? I ask as they have deeper tread than most tyres and this may be the cause of the slight rubbing at full lock on the front inner plastic arch.

Maybe its minor will go away as tbe tyres wear a little and it really is only minor and on absolute full lock. Its the front part of inner arch catching edge not the top.

Interesting possibility mine is a very late model D3 with a the factory D4 rear bumper and archrs etc.
Will look again tonorrow and see exactly where it touches the liner on both left and right full lock.
